Manchester United weigh up £30m bid for Arsenal midfielder
Manchester United are interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a £30m deal in the summer, according to The Daily Mirror.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, 23, has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth at Arsenal since joining from Southampton in 2011 and is a player Jose Mourinho has admired for many years now.
United are planning for another summer of huge investment and Mourinho has earmarked the versatile midfielder as one of many players he wants to bring to Old Trafford for next season.
Mourinho’s side sold Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin in January and Oxlade-Chamberlain has the versatility to play out wide and in central midfield, which appeals to the United manager.
Chelsea duo Willian and Nemanja Matic are Mourinho’s first choice targets but any deal for those two almost certainly appears out of the question.
Mourinho is hopeful of using Chris Smalling, a player Arsenal have previously been linked with, as bait in order to get the deal over the line.
Of players to have started at least 20 games in the last three Premier League campaigns, only Eden Hazard and Wilfried Zaha require fewer minutes per successful dribble than Oxlade-Chamberlain (1 every 21.2 minutes).
