Manchester City midfielder close to joining Galatasaray

Fernando is close to securing his Manchester City exit to join Turkish giants Galatasaray, reports BBC Sport.

Pep Guardiola deems the Brazilian surplus to requirements and the club are keen to offload the midfielder, who still has two years left to run on his rumoured £70,000-a-week deal.

Fernando hasn’t featured in any of City’s pre-season games and is now reportedly close to securing a move to Galatasaray after the Turkish side conceded defeat in their pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

The 30-year-old has spent the last two years with City after joining from Porto in a deal worth £12m, but has struggled to make a significant impression at the club.

Fernando only started five Premier League matches during Guardiola’s first campaign in charge of the club and was even deployed at right-back on one occasion.

Of players that started at least one Champions League match last season, only Thiago Silva (96%) and Mateo Kovacic (95.5%) gained a higher pass success rate than Fernando (95%).
