Under pressure Crystal Palace boss turns to Fonte to save job

Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer has turned his attention to Jose Fonte in a bid to save his job at Selhurst Park, reports the Daily Mirror.

De Boer has overseen three successive Premier League defeats in his first three games at Selhurst Park and is already under pressure to turn the Eagles’ fortunes around.

Individual mistakes have cost Palace this season, with two of the six goals conceded classed as errors that have led to an opposition goal.

And De Boer is readying a move for Fonte in a bid to remedy Palace’s defensive woes as he looks to avoid an early sacking from the south London side.

33-year-old Fonte has made just one Premier League start for West Ham this season, that coming in a 3-2 loss at former club Southampton.

The experienced Portuguese centre-back spent two-and-a-half years at Palace before leaving for Saints in 2010 and his return to the Eagles would be a huge boost to the club and De Boer, who was sacked just three months into his job at Inter last year.

Fonte is just one of a number of new faces De Boer is targeting before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
