Leicester identify Mahrez replacement

Leicester will move for Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend if Manchester City prise Riyad Mahrez away from the club, claims The Daily Mail.

City have already had two bids for Mahrez rejected in the last 24 hours and Leicester are holding out for nearly £100m for the Algeria international.

The Foxes will have to sign a replacement if Mahrez leaves before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline and Claude Puel’s side have earmarked Townsend as their top transfer target.

Leicester are long-term admirers of the 26-year-old but may struggle to convince Palace to part ways with the former England international after Bakary Sako picked up an injury on Tuesday night.

Townsend has played an important part in Palace’s resurgence under Roy Hodgson and his departure would be a blow to their chances of beating the drop.

The former Tottenham winger has played a direct hand in six goals for the Eagles this season (one goal, five assists).

Only Johann Berg Gudmundsson (23) and Ashley Young (19) have completed more crosses from open play that Townsend (18) in the Premier League this season, while only three players have completed more dribbles than the Palace ace (61).
