Spurs have made an enquiry to Southampton for midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to the London Evening Standard.
Mauricio Pochettino is looking to recruit a genuine defensive midfielder before the transfer window shuts in less than a fortnight’s time and has targeted Wanyama, with whom he worked successfully with during his stint as Saints manager.
The north London outfit had targeted Everton’s James McCarthy earlier this summer but have seemingly switched attentions to Wanyama after McCarthy signed a new deal at Goodison Park.
Southampton are likely to dig their heels in over the deal, particularly in the wake of Toby Alderweireld’s decision to join Spurs over them earlier last month.
Wanyama has developed into an integral player for Southampton and formed a particularly strong midfield bond alongside Morgan Schneiderlin, whom Spurs have also tried to sign in the last 12 months.
In fact, only Ashley Barnes (74) and Graziano Pellè (70) committed more fouls in the Premier League last season than Wanyama (68).
