Paris Saint-Germain poised to sign Borussia Dortmund superstar

Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a deal worth €70m (£61.2m), according to Yahoo Sport France.

Aubameyang, who spent five years in France before joining Dortmund in 2013, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga giants in the last few years but Dortmund had previously insisted they would only allow the Gabon international to leave the club if Barcelona or Real Madrid came calling.

However, PSG, who had earmarked Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez as their No.1 summer transfer target, have tabled an offer that would make Aubameyang the second most expensive player ever sold by a Bundesliga club, which Dortmund have reportedly accepted.

Aubameyang, 27, has agreed personal terms on a €10m (£8.7m) a year contract and will also receive a €6m (£5.2m) signing on bonus, with reports claiming only a few minor details need to be ironed out before the deal is officially confirmed by both sides.

It marks a huge signal of intent from PSG after the disappointments of this season. In Unai Emery’s maiden campaign at the club, PSG surrounded their Ligue 1 title for the first time since 2012 and were also humiliated by Barcelona in the round of 16 stage in the Champions League.

The potential arrival of Aubameyang will raise question marks over Edinson Cavani’s place in the team. Playing through the middle for the first time since joining PSG, Cavani ended the season having scored 49 goals in 50 matches in all competitions.

However, Aubameyang, who scored 40 goals in 46 matches for Dortmund this season, also plays through the middle and unless Emery accommodates his system to use both as the main strikers then this move could potentially prove problematic for the French giants.
