Newly promoted Watford are close to making Spurs midfielder Etienne Capoue their new record signing, according to reports.
The Hornets have switched their attentions to the France international after missing out on his Tottenham teammate Paulinho and are willing to pay £5.7m and offer the 26-year-old a three-year deal.
Watford manager Quique Flores is looking to bring in Premier League experience ahead of the new season and Capoue’s versatility could certainly help the Hornets, despite enduring two difficult campaigns in England’s top-flight.
Nevertheless, of players to have started in more than 10 Premier League games, only one Spurs player had a better pass completion than the French defensive midfielder (87.4%) last season.
The deal would set a new transfer record at Vicarage Road, surpassing the £3.75m they paid for Nathan Ellington in 2007.
