- Swansea could be short in defence, where Ben Davies is a doubt with a hamstring injury so Neil Taylor could play at left-back.
- Ashley Williams remains absent with a foot injury, and with Garry Monk also out Jordi Amat will play partner Chico in central defence.
- Pablo Hernandez and Jonathan De Guzman are also doubtful, so Michu could play in a deeper role once again with Bony up front.
- New Sunderland boss Gus Poyet could make widespread changes to Sunderland's underperforming first team, but what exactly those changes will be is anyone's guess.
- Steven Fletcher stands a chance of returning from a dislocated shoulder to face Swansea.
