Team News

Aberdeen
St. Johnstone
  • Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin named six changes to the Dons team after a second consecutive share of the spoils as they drew 1-1 with Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday, before Celtic snuck past them 1-0 at Pittodrie in their midweek meeting.
  • Ross Doohan replaced the injured Dimitar Mitov in goal. James McGarry kept his place at left-back. Gavin Molloy kept his place in the Dons defence - joined by Slobodan Rubezic as opposed to Angus MacDonald - and Nicky Devlin.
  • Club captain Graeme Shinnie joined Sivert Nilsen in the middle of the park. Duk and Topi Keskinen came in on the flanks, replacing Shayden Morris and Leighton Clarkson, to join Jamie McGrath in support of the sole striker Kevin Nisbet who started at Ester Sokler's expense.
  • St Johnstone boss Simo Valakari named an unchanged Saints side after their sole goal success against Kilmarnock in Perth, before they lost to Rangers by the same scoreline last Sunday at McDiarmid Park.
  • Josh Rae continued in goal behind the back four of Andre Raymond, Bozo Mikulic, Jack Sanders and Drey Wright. Graham Carey, Sven Sprangler and Jason Holt - who put through his own net against his former club - remained in midfield.
  • Nicky Clark supported a strike duo of Benji Kimpioka and Makenzie Kirk who netted the winner against Kilmarnock. Lewis Neilson, Aaron Essel, Max Kucheriavyi, Josh McPake and Adama Sidibeh all came off the bench against the Gers.

Prediction

  • Second-placed Aberdeen are 20 points clear of St Johnstone in ninth, before the two teams meet at Pittodrie this weekend.
  • Aberdeen's 100% home record, and Scottish Premiership title chances, were shattered after Celtic snuck past the hosts on Wednesday night at Pittodrie. The Hoops moved seven points clear, with a game in hand, but the Dons will want to bounce back this weekend to keep their chances of a top-two finish alive. Having beaten Saints on the opening day in Perth, that's certainly achievable.
  • St Johnstone have now lost their last eight matches against Rangers in all competitions, all without scoring a single goal, having last lost more consecutive matches against the Gers in December 1992 (10 on the spin). Saints' season won't be defined by matches against the Gers, or Aberdeen, so pressure is off at Pittodrie as other upcoming matches are perhaps deemed more winnable.
  • Despite their loss in midweek, Aberdeen have been strong in front of their own fans this season so should bounce back against St Johnstone on Saturday afternoon.
