Team News

St. Johnstone
Rangers
  • St Johnstone boss Simo Valakari named four changes to the Saints side that lost 2-1 to Motherwell at Fir Park before the international break, before they bounced back with a sole goal success against Kilmarnock in Perth on Saturday.
  • Two changes in the back four both came on the left-hand side as Andre Raymond replaced Barry Douglas at left-back and Bozo Mikulic took Kyle Cameron's place at centre-back. They joined Jack Sanders and Drey Wright in defence.
  • Graham Carey, Sven Sprangler and Jason Holt remained as the midfield trio with Matt Smith making way. Nicky Clark supported a strike duo of Benji Kimpioka - in for Adama Sidibeh - and the incoming weekend matchwinner Makenzie Kirk.
  • Rangers boss Philippe Clement made just one change despite the Gers being held at home in a 1-1 draw with Dundee United at the weekend, before they clinched an emphatic victory in France with a 4-1 win against Nice on Thursday night.
  • Jack Butland continued in goal behind an unchanged back four of Dujon Sterling, John Souttar, Robin Pröpper and Jefte. Connor Barron and Nico Raskin sat in front of the Gers backline, with Mohamed Diomande in front of them.
  • Nedim Bajrami and Vaclav Cerny supported Hamza Igamane, making his first European start for the club on the French Riviera, who bagged a brace as Rangers essentially sealed their spot in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Prediction

  • St Johnstone and Rangers meet for the third time in the 2024/25 season, with the Gers having already knocked Saints out of the League Cup and picked up three points at Ibrox.
  • Since the start of 2020/21, St Johnstone have won more Scottish Premiership matches against Kilmarnock than any other opponent (8) as their decent recent record against Killie continued with a huge three points last weekend. It's only the second league win for Saints in Perth in their final 15 league matches at McDiarmid Park, the other being a 3-0 success over Ross County last month.
  • Rangers' wonderful recent run against Dundee United, where they'd won each of their last five league meetings with the Terrors before last weekend, came to an end in their last league match. However, their domestic disappointment was succeeded by a continental triumph as an impressive 4-1 victory over Nice in France puts them above Manchester United and Tottenham in the table.
  • Saints have lost to the Gers at both Hampden and Ibrox this season without scoring a goal and, having scored twice on both occasions, a potentially leggy Rangers must find a way of beating St Johnstone in Perth this weekend.
