Team News

Celtic
Motherwell
  • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers named five changes to the Celts side that won the Scottish League Cup on penalties after a 3-3 thriller against Rangers at Hampden, before a disappointing goalless draw at Tannadice against Dundee United.
  • Kasper Schmeichel continued in goal as left-back Greg Taylor was the only defender to keep his spot. Alistair Johnston was replaced by Anthony Ralston at right-back, as Liam Scales and Stephen Welsh took Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty's places.
  • Reo Hatate and club captain Callum McGregor were joined in midfield by Luke McCowan as opposed to Paulo Bernardo. Hyun-Jun Yang took Nicolas Kühn's place to join Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhasi in the Hoops' frontline.
  • Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell named a sole change to the Steelmen side that won a frantic fixture 4-3 against Dundee United, before they were held at home by Kilmarnock in a 1-1 draw at Fir Park on Friday night.
  • Aston Oxborough remained in goal behind Shane Blaney, Dan Casey - who was sent off - and goalscorer Liam Gordon in the back three. Marvin Kaleta continued at right wing-back, with Steve Seddon remaining at left wing-back.
  • Harry Paton accompanied Lennon Miller and Andy Halliday in the middle of the park. Tony Watt replaced Tawanda Maswanhise, in order to partner Apostolos Stamatelopoulos in attack.

Prediction

  • Two of the Scottish Premiership's top four teams meet in Glasgow's east end as league leaders Celtic host Motherwell at Parkhead in their festive fixture.
  • Another Scottish side hadn't shut out Celtic since a 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle back in March last season, so Sunday's disappointing draw with Dundee United is something of a rarity. It's just the second stumble in what's been a near-perfect domestic season for last year's reigning champions so the Hoops will want to return to winning ways with a Glasgow derby around the corner.
  • Motherwell have now only lost just one of their last seven league meetings with Kilmarnock, a sole goal defeat last November at Rugby Park, but the Steelmen will be disappointed that they let their lead slip last Friday at Fir Park. The Well are winless in 31 meetings, losing 26 and drawing five, against the Hoops in all competitions since a 2-1 success at Celtic Park in December 2015.
  • Celtic will be disappointed with the draw against Dundee United last weekend, so Motherwell may feel the full brunt of the league leaders' frustrations on Boxing Day.
