Team News

Hearts
Dundee United
  • Steven Naismith made five changes as the Jambos lost 3-1 away to Motherwell at Fir Park last Sunday, before dropping into the Europa Conference League after losing 1-0 to Viktoria Plzen in Edinburgh and 2-0 on aggregate to the Czechs.
  • Kye Rowles and Frankie Kent accompanied Stephen Kingsley in the trio of centre halves behind Craig Gordon in goal. Gerald Taylor kept his place at right wing-back, with James Penrice reinstated at left wing-back replacing Andres Salazar.
  • Cammy Devlin took Blair Spittal's place to join Malachi Boateng in midfield. Alan Forrest and Yan Dhanda made way for Jorge Grant and Liam Boyce. Star striker Lawrence Shankland looks to have picked up a knock, so Kenneth Vargas lead the line.
  • Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin named an unchanged Terrors team after advancing into the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals with a 1-0 win against St Mirren, before they beat St Johnstone 2-0 at Tannadice to record their first league victory of the season.
  • Jack Walton continued in goal - behind a back three of Emmanuel Adegboyega, Declan Gallagher and Ross Graham. Miller Thomson dropped out of midfield as Craig Sibbald and Kevin Holt started in the centre of the midfield four.
  • Will Ferry continued at left wing-back, with Luca Stephenson taking Vicko Ševelj's spot on the right as he missed out through injury. Macedonian duo David Babunski and Kristijan Trapanovski supported lone striker Jort van der Sande in attack.

Prediction

  • Hearts and Dundee United meet in the Scottish Premiership for the first time since February 2023 as the two teams go toe-to-toe at Tynecastle.
  • The Jambos have gone winless across their opening three games of a Scottish Premiership season for the first time since the 2019/20 campaign, and are desperate to avoid making it four. Should they beat United, Hearts will match last season's start where they took just four points from as many matches and a win here would also put Thursday night's disappointment firmly behind them.
  • United haven't beaten Hearts in a Scottish Premiership match since February 2016 but, having just won their first match upon their return to the top tier and given the hosts' recent woes, will feel that they've got a great chance to end that rotten recent record against the Jambos. Consecutive clean sheets and players that can hurt Hearts should mean that the Terrors have nothing to fear.
  • There's been goals galore when these two teams meet in recent seasons but Hearts haven't shown their offensive prowess enough recently, which means United have a great chance of holding them at home.
