Team News

Kilmarnock
St. Johnstone
  • Kimarnock boss Derek McInnes named three changes from the Killie team that was battered 4-0 in their opening Scottish Premiership fixture away to Celtic at Parkhead, before their 2-2 draw with Norwegian side Tromsø in midweek.
  • Joe Wright replaced Oliver Bainbridge to accompany Stuart Findlay and Lewis Mayo in the back three. David Watson made way as Liam Donnelly, Liam Polworth and Brad Lyons to continue in the middle of the park.
  • Danny Armstrong took Fraser Murray's place on the right hand side, as Matty Kennedy kept his spot on the left. Bruce Anderson came in to partner Kyle Vassell, who gave Killie an early lead in their Europa Conference qualifying first leg, in attack.
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein handed Scottish Premiership debuts to six of Saints' summer signings as they kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen at McDiarmid Park on Monday night's sole league fixture.
  • Josh Rae started between the sticks. A largely new back four of debutants André Raymond, Kyle Cameron and Lewis Neilson joined Sam McClelland. Aaron Essel made his first league start for Saints on the left flank, with Drey Wright on the right.
  • Matt Smith and Cammy MacPherson were chosen in the middle of the park. Benjamin Kimpioka and Adama Sidibeh lead the line for Saints against Aberdeen on Monday night.

Prediction

  • Two of the three teams that lost on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership season go toe-to-toe at Rugby Park, as Kilmarnock host St Johnstone on Sunday afternoon.
  • Killie have been too occupied with attempting to qualify for European competition recently, as they were blown away by Celtic in Glasgow on the opening weekend. After dropping into the Europa Conference following defeat to Cercle Brugge, they head to Norway knowing that a win will see them into the next round. Three points in their first home league game here also wouldn't go amiss.
  • St Johnstone are now winless on the opening weekend in their last seven Scottish Premiership seasons, losing five, having not been victorious on the opening day since a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park back in 2017/18. A last-gasp winner in Ayrshire wouldn't go amiss here as, the longer that Saints go without a league victory, their fears of a return to the Scottish Championship increase.
  • Despite being held at home in Europe in midweek, Killie have won their last two league meetings with St Johnstone and will want to clinch a third consecutive win on the spin against Saints.
