Team News

Benfica
Sporting
  • Bah, Neres and Kokçu remain injured and won't be part of Sunday's derby.
  • Petar Musa should lead the line, getting the nod over Cabral and Tengstedt.
  • Other than that, Roger Schmidt should name the same Starting XI that faced Real Sociedad last time around.
  • Gyokeres had a full week to rest as he served a match ban against Rakow and will likely boost Sporting CP' options upfront.
  • Pote netted a decisive brace in midweek and should be full of confidence heading into Sunday' derby.
  • Geny Catamo and Morita are injured and won't be available here, giving Esgaio and Bragança another chance to start.

Prediction

  • Despite being able to get back-to-back wins in domestic competittions, SL Benfica have been far from convincing lately and that was evident in midweek on their 3-1 loss to Real Sociedad, where they were lucky to not concede more goals. Roger Schmidt' men need to improve massively if they want to get something out of Sunday's derby.
  • Sporting CP, on the other hand, are enjoying a delightful run of form. They've won 13 out of their 16 matches this season and have only lost a couple of points in the league, keeping them at the top of the table. Rúben Amorim' men are looking confident right now.
  • SL Benfica have been able to deliver good performances when they have to face tough opponents in domestic competitions as they've beaten FC Porto twice this season. However, they will face an ultra-confident Sporting CP that could end this streak, especially if Gyokeres is in a good mood.
