Team News

Rangers
Aberdeen
  • Rangers manager Philippe Clement named six changes from the Gers team that clinched victory over St Mirren in Paisley by a sole goal, before their comfortable 3-0 win against Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.
  • Borna Barisic and Leon Balogun replaced Ridvan Yilmaz and John Souttar in the Gers' back four. Ryan Jack took Nicolas Raskin's place to accompany John Lundstram in front of the defence.
  • Dujon Sterling and Scott Wright were previously occupying the flanks, but made way for Ross McCausland and Rabbi Matondo to come in. Cyriel Dessers dropped onto the bench as Fábio Silva started as the sole striker and grabbed his first Rangers goal.
  • Interim Aberdeen boss Peter Leven named four changes to the Dons team that drew 1-1 with Dundee in midweek, as they picked up another point at Pittodrie by holding league leaders Celtic by the same scoreline at lunchtime on Saturday.
  • Stefan Gartenmann recovered from injury to join Nicky Devlin, Richard Jensen and Jack MacKenzie in the Dons defence as Angus MacDonald made way. Connor Barron joined club captain Graeme Shinnie at Jack Milne's expense
  • Crystal Palace loanee Killian Phillips was handed his Aberdeen debut in midfield, replacing Leighton Clarkson. Dante Polvara was also one of the trio supporting the Reds' main marksman Bojan Miovski, with Ester Sokler on the bench.

Prediction

  • Rangers took full advantage of Aberdeen holding league leaders Celtic in the early kick-off on Saturday, hoping that the Dons don't prove a potential banana skin for them in midweek.
  • The Gers' strong recent record against Livingston - particularly at Ibrox - continued as they cut the gap at the top of the table to three points, but have a game in hand on their bitter city rivals. Aberdeen's previous visit to Ibrox this season proved Michael Beale's final match in charge of Rangers but they are unbeaten at Ibrox under the Englishman's successor Philippe Clement so far.
  • Aberdeen had never previously lost 10 in a row against Celtic and, after losing nine on the spin previously, they ensured that record remained intact at the weekend. Their last victory over the Hoops at Pittodrie was in February 2016 but, given the turbulent week they have had and the fact they are still searching for a new permanent manager, a point should be considered a positive.
  • Rangers are yet to beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership this season, but they pipped them in the Scottish League Cup final by a sole goal and will fancy repeating that feat this midweek.
