Team News

Motherwell
Celtic
  • Stuart Kettlewell named two enforced changes to the Motherwell team that drew against Aberdeen 3-3 at Pittodrie, before a 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle last Saturday afternoon.
  • Dan Casey made his first Motherwell start since the beginning of December, as Calum Butcher made way, to join Bevis Mugabi and Paul McGinn in the Well's back three. Georgie Gent and Adam Devine continued at left and right wing-back.
  • Lennon Miller made his first Scottish Premiership start since the beginning of November, as Blair Spittal missed the trip to Edinburgh. He and Harry Paton got forward, in support of strike duo Jack Vale and Theo Bair up front.
  • Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers named just one change to the Celts side that progressed in the Scottish Cup thanks to a 2-0 win over St Mirren in Paisley, before they were held at home in a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock last weekend.
  • Greg Taylor entered the Hoops defence after a month out, to start against his former club. Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales made up the rest of the back four. Callum McGregor and Matt O'Riley were the duo sat in front of them.
  • Luis Palma started on the left-hand side of midfield, with Daizen Maeda on the right. Kyogo Furuhashi, who opened the scoring against Saints in Paisley, supported Adam Idah who was the match winner against Hibs in their last league game.

Prediction

  • Both Motherwell and Celtic are looking to get over disappointing results last weekend, in Sunday's sole Scottish Premiership fixture at Fir Park.
  • The Well fell to an 11th Scottish Premiership game away from home without a victory after losing 2-0 to Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday. The Steelmen are tied with Dundee and Hearts for the team to have scored the most league goals outside of the top two (35). However, the 41 goals that Motherwell have conceded is only fewer than the bottom two sides Ross County and Livingston (43 and 42).
  • Celtic were replaced at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after being held at home by Kilmarnock in a 1-1 draw, before Rangers beat St Johnstone to leapfrog the Hoops into first place. The reigning champions have now dropped more points this season (16) than they did in the entirety of the 2022/23 season (15). Should the Gers beat Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday, Celtic have to find a response here.
  • Motherwell claimed a point at Parkhead in November, after Celtic snuck past them at Fir Park in September. The hosts score goals but concede plenty too, and the visitors simply have to find a way of winning.
