Team News

Kilmarnock
Aberdeen
  • Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes named four changes to the Killie team that advanced into the Scottish Cup quarter-final thanks to a 2-0 victory over Cove Rangers, before a 1-1 draw with Celtic at Parkhead last Saturday afternoon.
  • Joe Wright entered the Killie back three, as they headed to the side that were sat top of the Premiership table, replacing Rory McKenzie. Danny Armstrong replaced Fraser Murray to start at right wing-back against Celtic last Saturday.
  • David Watson, who grabbed the equaliser, had to do so from the bench as Liam Donnelly was given the nod to start at Celtic Park. Kevin van Veen was replaced by club captain Kyle Vassell who partnered Marley Watkins up front.
  • Interim Aberdeen boss Neil Warnock made two changes from the Dons' mental match with Motherwell last midweek, which ended 3-3 at Pittodrie, before another draw as they were held at home by Hibernian in a 2-2 stalemate on Saturday.
  • Richard Jensen entered the Dons defence after illness, as they resorted to a back four. He joined Nicky Devlin at right-back, Stefan Gartenmann in the centre and Jack MacKenzie at left-back. Dante Polvara was sat amongst the substitutes.
  • Graeme Shinnie, Connor Barron and Leighton Clarkson continued in midfield. Jamie McGrath supported Bojan Miovski and the incoming Duk in the Aberdeen attack. Shayden Morris dropped out of the matchday squad altogether.

Prediction

  • A dress rehearsal of one of the four Scottish Cup quarter-finals this season takes place this weekend, albeit at a different location, as Kilmarnock host Aberdeen at Rugby Park on Scottish Premiership duty.
  • Kilmarnock's excellent recent record against Celtic continued, as they left it late to leave Parkhead with a point which ultimately succeeded two victories over the Hoops at Rugby Park earlier on in the current campaign. Two points clear of St Mirren in fifth and five clear of Dundee in sixth, Killie will want to get back to winning ways to strengthen their case of finishing in fourth this season.
  • Aberdeen have now gone seven Scottish Premiership matches without a win, last going longer without a victory in Scotland's top tier in a run of 10 games from January to March 2022. The Dons have lost both league meetings with Killie this season without scoring a goal. Only Motherwell (11) have recovered more points than Aberdeen (9) from losing positions in the league this season.
  • Kilmarnock have won three of their last four against Aberdeen, including both league meetings this season, and will fancy their chances of making it four from five against the Dons.
