Team News

St. Johnstone
Hearts
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein named three changes to the Saints side that drew 1-1 with Motherwell at McDiarmid Park, before victory in the Highlands over Ross County by a sole goal on Saturday afternoon.
  • Tony Gallacher and Fran Franczak started on the left and right hand side of a five-man midfield, with Connor Smith taking a central berth to accompany Graham Carey and Max Kucheriavyi. Liam Gordon, Matt Smith and Dan Phillips dropped out.
  • There was a space amongst the substitutes for Adama Sidibeh who joined Saints on transfer deadline day. However, Benjamin Kimpioka netted his first goal for the club at the weekend so could continue as the sole striker this weekend.
  • Hearts boss Steven Naismith made one enforced change after the Jambos' 2-0 victory over Aberdeen in Edinburgh, before they played out a five-goal thriller at Dens Park as they snuck past Dundee 3-2 at the weekend.
  • Stephen Kingsley was ill, so Toby Sibbick accompanied Frankie Kent in the Jambos' back four. Dexter Lembikisa has impressed since signing on loan from Wolves at right-back, Alex Cochrane continued at left-back.
  • There was a spot amongst the substitutes for January addition Scott Fraser. Yutaro Oda, Jorge Grant and Alan Forrest - who netted Hearts' equaliser against Dundee - supported Lawrence Shankland who bagged a brace at Dens at the weekend.

Prediction

  • Fourth bottom hosts third top, as St Johnstone take on Hearts at McDiarmid Park in one of four midweek matches in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.
  • Saints picked up a pivotal three points in the Highlands on Saturday, moving five points clear of Ross County and leapfrogging Motherwell into ninth spot in the Scottish Premiership table. The Staggies may have a game in hand on Saints, but attention could easily turn towards the top six as they're only a few points away. A win here could see them continue to climb further to safety.
  • Hearts left it late to get the better of Dundee twice in the space of 11 days, both by a 3-2 scoreline. The Jambos have won four away Scottish Premiership games in a row for the first time since the 2010/11 season, and are the second most in-form top-tier team in the country at present. They're looking to continue creating a gap in third place, which would be aided by another win here.
  • Hearts have won both league meetings between these two teams this season without conceding a goal. However, St Johnstone fell to a sole goal defeat at Tynecastle and the Jambos will hope they can find a way to sneak past Saints - who are unbeaten in four home league games - again in Perth.
