Team News

Motherwell
St. Mirren
  • Stuart Kettlewell named just one change to the Motherwell team that clinched a shock 2-1 success at Ibrox against Rangers, before a sole-goal defeat to Aberdeen at Fir Park in their last league game before the international break.
  • Liam Kelly continued in goal with Paul McGinn, Bevis Mugabi and Dan Casey in front of him to make up the Well's backline. Stephen O'Donnell and Shane Blaney remained at right wing-back and left wing-back respectively.
  • Blair Spittal dropped back to join Lennon Miller in the middle of the park, as Davor Zdravkovski made way. Sam Nicholson came in as the Steelmen's only change to join Jack Vale, in support of lone striker Theo Bair up front.
  • Stephen Robinson named four changes to the St Mirren side that bounced back with two late goals to beat Aberdeen 2-1 in Paisley, before a 5-2 defeat to Kilmarnock in Ayrshire where they were two goals to the good against Killie.
  • Zach Hemming continued in goal with Alex Gogic and Marcus Fraser in the Buddies' back three, joined by the incoming Charles Dunne - who put Saints ahead - who replaced James Bolton. Scott Tanser remained at left wing-back.
  • Ryan Flynn took Elvis Bwomono's place at right wing-back. Club captain Mark O'Hara made his first start of 2024 as Hyeok-Kyu Kwon made way in midfield. Conor McMenamin came in for Lewis Jamieson to join Greg Kiltie in support of Mikael Mandron.

Prediction

  • Ten points separate Motherwell in eighth place with St Mirren in fifth, with the two teams meeting at Fir Park this weekend as the Scottish Premiership returns.
  • Motherwell have now failed to win any of their last five Scottish Premiership meetings with Aberdeen, spurning a great chance to create further distance between them and the Dons in the league table before the international break. The Well could have won three consecutive league matches for the first time since September, but are hoping to bounce back with a victory over St Mirren.
  • Saints are now winless in eleven away games against Kilmarnock in the Scottish top flight since a 3-1 win in May 2013, after a collapse from such a commanding position before the international break. Having now fallen two points behind Killie, who head to Tynecastle to take on third-placed Hearts on Saturday, the Buddies won't want to lose any further ground on the top four places.
  • Both teams will be disappointed with their last league match but there's been just one goal in the two league meetings so far this season, so we should expect another tight affair here.
