Team News

Kilmarnock
St. Johnstone
  • Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes named two changes to the Killie team that beat Celtic for the second time this season at Rugby Park, before they were held in a goalless draw away to Livingston last weekend.
  • Lewis Mayo, Stuart Findlay and Robbie Deas have developed a real understanding at the back. David Watson returned from suspension, to accompany Brad Lyons and Liam Polworth, taking Liam Donnelly's place in midfield.
  • Kyle Magennis was sat amongst the substitutes against Livi, after his injury woes. Matty Kennedy proved the matchwinner against Celtic, but made way for Marley Watkins to accompany club captain Kyle Vassell in attack.
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein named three changes to the Saints team that clinched victory over Hibernian at McDiarmid Park courtesy of a sole goal on Saturday afternoon, before falling to a 2-0 defeat against Rangers at Ibrox.
  • Andy Considine replaced Ryan McGowan at the heart of the Saints backline, to join club captain Liam Gordon. Tony Gallacher made way for Oludare Olufunwa to also start in defence on Wednesday night.
  • Graham Carey was the weekend matchwinner but had to settle for a spot amongst the substitutes, as Sven Sprangler took his spot for 35 mins. Sole striker Diallang Jaiyesimi was sent off, Chris Kane is perhaps the most likely candidate to take his place.

Prediction

  • Six points separate Kilmarnock in fifth and St Johnstone in ninth, heading into this weekend's Scottish Premiership fixtures.
  • Kilmarnock's inconsistencies are highlighted in the past two fixtures, as a wonderful win over Celtic was succeded by a disappointing draw against Livingston away from home. Six wins, six draws and six defeats in their 18 league games speaks volumes. Killie are far stronger in Ayrshire than they are on the road, having lost just two Scottish Premiership matches at Rugby Park so far this season.
  • The only team to have won fewer away matches than Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership so far this season is St Johnstone, with Saints the only team yet to claim three points on the road in the 2023/24 campaign. Before their defeat at Ibrox in midweek, Saints had taken seven points from their last available nine with scalps over St Mirren and Hibs sandwiched with a draw against Motherwell.
  • Despite St Johnstone's recent upturn in form before their midweek match, Kilmarnock will be looking to make home advantage count this weekend.
