Team News

Hearts
Dundee FC
  • Hearts boss Steven Naismith made four changes after the Jambos clinched a 2-1 win away to Livingston in their last league match, before they returned from the winter break by squeezing past Spartans in the Scottish Cup by the same scoreline.
  • Craig Gordon replaced Zander Clark between the sticks, to become the oldest player to play competitively for the Jambos in his first Hearts start for 392 days behind an unchanged back three in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off.
  • Jorge Grant and Beni Baningime replaced Calem Nieuwenhof and Peter Haring in midfield. Yutaro Oda took Toby Sibbick's spot in the starting eleven as Kyosuke Tagawa replaced the men in maroon's main marksman Lawrence Shankland.
  • Dundee boss Tony Docherty named three changes to the Dee team after they left Kilmarnock with a point in their last league match, but were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Killie in Ayrshire thanks to two early goals in a 2-0 defeat.
  • Adam Legzdins replaced Trevor Carson in goal, as Lee Ashcroft took Aaron Donnelly's place in the Dee back three. Four of the five-man midfield kept their places - Luke McCowan, Mo Sylla, Josh Mulligan and Ryan Howley - on Saturday.
  • Liverpool loanee Owen Beck has returned to the Reds, featuring in their weekend win over Bournemouth. However, new signing Dara Costelloe - previously on loan at St Johnstone from Burnley - made his Dundee debut at Rugby Park.

Prediction

  • Hosts Hearts left it late to scrape past Spartans and progress in the Scottish Cup, whereas a quickfire Kilmarnock dumped Dundee out of Scotland's premier cup competition on Saturday.
  • The winter break perhaps came at a poor time for Hearts given their recent Scottish Premiership form. The Jambos have won four of their last five league games, with the only disappointment being the draw with Ross County. Rustiness perhaps got the better of them against the Staggies, just as against Spartans on Saturday, so they'll look for a more commanding result and display.
  • But Dundee beat the capital club earlier on in the season when the two teams met at Dens Park back in August. The Dee have enjoyed the first half of their first season back in Scotland's top tier but are only four points clear of the relegation playoff place. However, if they can make their games in hand count, they should be looking towards the top six as opposed to a basement battle.
  • The hosts will look to carry on their recent league run, and are due a win over Dundee given the visitors got the better of them in the reverse fixture, so will go all out for three points by hook or by crook.
