Team News

Hearts
Motherwell
  • Hearts' management made five changes after the Jambos' 2-1 defeat to Greek outfit PAOK at Tynecastle in their Europa Conference League playoff first leg, before they lost their last league match to Dundee at Dens Park last Sunday.
  • Odel Offiah replaced Nathaniel Atkinson at right-back. Alex Cochrane missed the first three league games of the season through suspension, but is available for selection again. He made way for Toby Sibbick to start against the Dee.
  • Youngsters Aidan Denholm and Alex Lowry took Cammy Devlin and Liam Boyce's spots in midfield. Yutaro Oda replaced the injured Barrie McKay to join Kenneth Vargas in support of the Jambos' main marksman Lawrence Shankland.
  • Stuart Kettlewell named three changes from Motherwell's 1-0 loss to St Mirren in Paisley which saw them dumped out of the Scottish League Cup, as they responded with a 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock at Fir Park last weekend.
  • Brodie Spencer, on loan from Huddersfield Town, started for the Steelmen as a left wing-back replacing Shane Blaney in the starting eleven. Davor Zdravkovski made way for Lennon Miller to take his place in the Motherwell midfield.
  • And in attack, Conor Wilkinson made way for Joe Efford to partner Theo Bair up front. Jon Obika and Mika Biereth are both unavailable, joining Pape Souare and Calum Butcher on the treatment table at present.

Prediction

  • Hearts host Motherwell at Tynecastle, looking to move level on points with the Steelmen after just four games of the Scottish Premiership season.
  • Hearts gave themselves a mountain to climb on Thursday, playing PAOK in the second leg of their Europa Conference League playoff in Greece. Continental football has been put to rest, and the Jambos hope to rediscover a solid domestic showing to give themselves a chance of participating in European football next season. A first Tynecastle victory in the league wouldn't go amiss here.
  • Motherwell haven't lost a Scottish Premiership match since April, having just got the better of the previous all-conquering Kilmarnock. Having lost just once away from Fir Park under Stuart Kettlewell, the Well will look to take advantage of a potentially leggy Hearts side who will just have arrived home from Greece. A point or potentially all three would continue a solid start so far.
  • Motherwell won the last league meeting, 2-0 at Fir Park in February, after Hearts had been victorious in the previous two. However, with extra time to prepare, the Steelmen will fancy their chances at holding Hearts at home here.
