Team News

Motherwell
Hearts
  • Stuart Kettlewell named two changes after Motherwell's 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock last Saturday at Rugby Park, before they bounced back to draw 2-2 with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park in their midweek match on Tuesday night.
  • Shane Blaney and Calum Butcher continued alongside Dan Casey in the Steelmen's back three. Stephen O'Donnell took Paul McGinn's place at right wing-back, with Brodie Spencer retaining his place at left wing-back.
  • Theo Bair dropped to the bench against his former club, as Callum Slattery re-entered the starting eleven to join Blair Spittal and Harry Paton in midfield. Mika Biereth, who netted the equaliser, partnered Conor Wilkinson in attack.
  • Hearts boss Steven Naismith made four changes after the Jambos beat Livingston 1-0 at Tynecastle in their last league match, before it was a case of Hampden heartache as they lost the League Cup semi-final 3-1 to Rangers on Sunday.
  • Toby Sibbick came in at right wing-back, replacing Alan Forrest in the starting eleven. Calem Nieuwenhof replaced compatriot Cammy Devlin, in order to partner Beni Baningime in the middle of the park.
  • Jorge Grant also started in midfield, replacing the ineligible Alex Lowry. And, in attack, Kenneth Vargas - who netted his first Hearts goal which proved the winner against Livingston - took Liam Boyce's spot to partner Lawrence Shankland.

Prediction

  • Neither Motherwell nor Hearts enter their Scottish Premiership meeting on Saturday, at Fir Park, in the best of fettle recently.
  • The Well are winless in eight Scottish Premiership matches, losing six of them and haven't won in the league since the reverse fixture at Tynecastle where they got the better of Hearts by a sole goal. This is a decent opportunity to get back to winning ways, perhaps encouraged by the comeback at Perth in midweek, but will be disappointed that they found themselves two goals down.
  • Hearts enter their match with Motherwell having won their last Scottish Premiership game against Livingston, perhaps underwhelmed that it came due to one sole goal. The wait to win the Scottish League Cup goes on, but they'll want to put their latest Hampden heartbreak firmly behind them. They're owe Motherwell one after the Well were victorious in Gorgie back in September.
  • Hearts have won just one of their last four league games and, whilst Motherwell are winless in their last four, a share of the spoils this Saturday seems a fairly likely outcome.
