Team News

St. Johnstone
Livingston
  • St Johnstone boss Steven MacLean made six changes to the Saints side that fell to a 2-0 defeat to Rangers at McDiarmid Park last weekend, before they lost at Easter Road against Hibernian by the same scoreline last Saturday afternoon.
  • James Brown replaced Oludare Olufunwa, who was sat amongst the substitutes in Edinburgh. Club captain Liam Gordon missed out completely, replaced by Sam McClelland to partner Andy Considine at the back.
  • Sven Sprangler made his first Saints start in midfield, at Max Kucheriavyi's expense. Cammy MacPherson also started in the middle of the park, replacing Matt Smith. Dara Costelloe and Chris Kane made way for Drey Wright and Stevie May.
  • Davie Martindale named four changes to the Livingston team that was swept aside 3-0 by Celtic at home last Saturday lunchtime, before a 4-0 defeat at Ibrox in their Scottish League Cup quarter-final against Rangers on Wednesday night.
  • The Lions have recently shifted to a back four, with Jamie Brandon and James Penrice starting at right and left back respectively. Luiyi De Lucas and Ayo Obileye were named as the two centre-backs given Mikey Devlin is injured.
  • Andrew Shinnie made way for Sean Kelly. Stephen Kelly started at Scott Pittman's expense. Scott Pittman dropped out for Daniel Mackay to start. And in attack, Kurtis Guthrie was given the nod over Bruce Anderson.

Prediction

  • Two of the Scottish Premiership's bottom three, heading into the weekend, play in Perth as St Johnstone host Livingston on Saturday afternoon.
  • After Aberdeen's comprehensive victory against Ross County, St Johnstone are now the only Scottish Premiership team without a win in the league so far this season. Given Livingston's last two matches in all competitions, where they've lost heavily to both the Old Firm, Saints will feel as though this is a great chance to put those demons to rest. Failure to do so and pressure intensifies.
  • Livingston have won once in the Scottish Premiership this season, but are winless in their last three league games. The Lions haven't been victorious in the month of September with their last win coming at Easter Road against Hibernian at the end of August. If they beat St Johnstone in Perth this weekend, they could open up a seven-point gap over Saints at the foot of the league table.
  • Aside from playing the Old Firm, Livingston have picked up points against every other Scottish Premiership team they've played this season and will fancy three against a goal-shy St Johnstone.
