Team News

Dundee FC
Hearts
  • Dundee boss Tony Docherty made two changes from the Dee's Scottish Premiership opener, where they were held at home by Motherwell in a 1-1 draw before falling to a 2-1 defeat to St Mirren in Paisley the weekend before last.
  • Trevor Carson made his Dundee debut between the sticks, conceding twice to his former club. That included an own goal from Joe Shaughnessy, part of the defensive trio in front of him who was joined by Lee Ashcroft and Jordan McGhee.
  • The only outfield alteration saw Josh Mulligan take the aforementioned McGhee's spot in midfield. Mexican defender Antonio Portales - who Mulligan replaced - is out of his knee brace after injuring his ligaments within six minutes of his Scottish Premiership debut.
  • Hearts' management made four changes after the Jambos' comfortable 4-0 victory against Partick Thistle in the Scottish League Cup, before their 2-1 defeat to Greek outfit PAOK at Tynecastle in their Europa Conference League playoff first leg.
  • Stephen Kingsley and Nathaniel Atkinson came in to start at left and right-back respectively, replacing Calem Nieuwenhof and weekend debutant Odel Offiah who scored against their Championship opponents.
  • Cammy Devlin took Toby Sibbick's spot in midfield, to accompany Alex Cochrane who is suspended for the first three league games of the season including this one. Liam Boyce replaced Alex Lowry in support of lone striker Lawrence Shankland.

Prediction

  • Newly-promoted Dundee are yet to emerge victorious upon their return to the Scottish Premiership, while visitors Hearts are yet to taste defeat or even concede a goal.
  • The Dee have had a fortnight to prepare for this fixture, given they didn't qualify for the round of 16 in the Scottish League Cup despite three victories from their four fixtures in the group stage. Their next two league games are already pretty important, taking on St Johnstone in a Tayside derby next week before the tricky task of taking on reigning league champions Celtic in Glasgow.
  • Hearts will be left gutted after their midweek match which leaves it all to do in Greece for the Jambos if they're to qualify for the Europa Conference League group stage for the second successive season. A tough tie also awaits them in the Scottish League Cup, away to Kilmarnock who knocked out holders Celtic and fixtures are beginning to come thick and fast for the men in maroon.
  • Hearts have won three of their last four visits to Dens Park, but Dundee have had extra time to work out a gameplan to hold Hearts and gain at least a point in this one.
