Team News

Hearts
Kilmarnock
  • Hearts' management made three changes after the men in maroon kicked off their league season with a 2-0 win away to St Johnstone in Perth, before falling to a 2-1 defeat in Trondheim against Rosenborg in Europa Conference League qualifying.
  • Alex Cochrane, who is suspended for the first three Scottish Premiership games of the season, replaced Stephen Kingsley at left-back. Beni Baningime took Peter Haring's place to join Cammy Devlin in front of the Jambos' back four.
  • Alex Lowry started at Calem Nieuwenhof's expense, joining Alan Forrest and Yutaro Oda in support of lone striker Lawrence Shankland. The former Ayr and Dundee United striker scored on his 28th birthday in Norway on Thursday.
  • Derek McInnes made two changes from Kilmarnock's final League Cup group stage game, a 2-1 victory over Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill, as they clinched a 1-0 victory over Rangers at Rugby Park to kick off their league campaign.
  • Ipswich Town loanee Corrie Ndaba started at left wing-back, replacing Fraser Murray in the starting lineup. Danny Armstrong, Killie's main man last season, started on the other flank at right wing-back.
  • Killie opted to start with Marley Watkins and Matty Kennedy up front, as David Watson took Innes Cameron's place in the starting eleven. Kilmarnock's talisman and new club captain Kyle Vassell was only fit enough for the bench on Saturday.

Prediction

  • Two of the four Scottish Premiership teams who won on the opening day meet at Tynecastle as Hearts host Kilmarnock in Gorgie on Sunday afternoon.
  • The Jambos will want to get back to winning ways, after they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat in their midweek match against Norwegian outfit Rosenborg in the first leg of their Europa Conference League third round tie. Potential progress in Europe and in the League Cup is halted for now, with their next three matches at Tynecastle coming thick and fast in three different competitions.
  • Kilmarnock continued their decent recent form against Rangers at Rugby Park, inflicting the Gers' first top tier opening day defeat since 1998 where they lost to Hearts at Tynecastle, having lost just three of their last 10 against the Gers in East Ayrshire since Rangers' promotion in 2016. They knocked Hearts out of the League Cup in Gorgie last season and would love another win here.
  • Hearts' recent record against Kilmarnock at Tynecastle doesn't make great reading, despite a 3-1 league victory last season, and the visitors will want to hold the potentially-fatigued hosts after their win last weekend.
