Team News

Celta Vigo
Girona
  • 20-year-old Miguel Rodriguez has started two games in a row for Celta and could keep his place in the side on Sunday.
  • Luca de la Torre scored from left-midfield in the Copa del Rey this week and should be preferred there again for the Girona match.
  • Ivan Villar returns from suspension. Jonathan Bamba continues his AFCON run with Ivory Coast.
  • Aleix Garcia returns from his suspension to where he is needed; right at the heart of midfield.
  • Artem Dovbyk, who came off the bench in Girona's Copa del Rey exit, scored a hat-trick last week against Sevilla and will be relied upon heavily on the road this weekend.
  • Juanpe is out with a fresh injury, setting the scene for Eric Garcia to take his place.

Prediction

  • Girona were defeated by a 3-2 scoreline at Mallorca on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey but were able to stay relatively injury free ahead of this crucial weekend at the summit of the table. This match is a must-win for the visitors if they want any realistic chance of staying top of the league by the end of next week.
  • Girona narrowly scraped past Celta at home in the reverse fixture and what's more, this weekend's hosts are renowned under Rafa Benitez for frustrating sides and stopping them from playing their signature football. Avoiding a defeat would at least see them move three points from the dropzone, and at the most move them up to 14th place, level on points with Mallorca and Villarreal.
  • Like the reverse fixture in October, Celta will likely keep the pressure on until late in the game, where Girona will seek to pounce with a late winner.
