Team News

Real Madrid
Almeria
  • Lucas Vazquez is out with a fresh hamstring injury - he sits along side David Alaba, Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois, who all are suffering with long-term ACL injuries.
  • Ferland Mendy returned from injury in the final of the Super Copa, and he could well keep his place in the side over Fran Garcia.
  • Nacho returns from La Liga suspension and should fill in next to Rudiger at centre back.
  • Leo Baptistao is suspended for this one...
  • Gonzalo Melero, Marezi, and Luis Suarez all return from injury to bolster Almeria's ranks.
  • Suarez was a significant loss for the club when he was injured back in October. He could start up top straight away.

Prediction

  • Though Almeria lead Real 1-0 for half an hour in the reverse fixture thanks to loanee Sergio Arribas, they fell to a 3-1 defeat at home back in August. Holding on to leads has been one of the main failures of the Andalusian outfit that sees them still winless in La Liga.
  • Real are flying high on confidence having beaten Atletico and Barca in less than a week to claim their first piece of silverware this season. With a game in hand over Girona, they have the opportunity to go two points at the top of the league, too.
  • This fixture should be the most obvious result of the weekend, but Almeria surprised everyone last week, keeping a clean sheet against Girona - a feat which only Real Madrid have also managed to achieve this season.
