Team News

Atletico
Villarreal
  • Alvaro Morata is in tremendous form and should start. In midweek he scored two goals against Celtic to overtake the likes of Luis Suarez in overall number of Champions League goals scored.
  • Rodrigo Riquelme has been playing more frequently and the youngster could well become a permanent fixture for Diego Simeone.
  • Atleti are without four players through injury.
  • Villarreal find themselves with a number of key players out with injury. The visitors' boss Pacheta will have to plug some holes with necessary players, rather than ones he would prefer to play there.
  • Ben Brereton should come in for the injured Gerard Moreno. Former PL defenders Kiko Femenia and Alberto Moreno should fill in on the flanks.

Prediction

  • Atletico Madrid suffered only their second loss of the season last Friday against Las Palmas, and will be ravenous to bounce back against a visiting Villarreal who have been arguably poor in their 23/24 La Liga campaign. That said, Villarreal are unbeaten in four matches away from home, but this could be the fixture that brings that to an end. Pacheta has Gerard Moreno, Yeremi Pino, Juan Foyth, and Alfonso Pedraza out with injuries and is sporting a worryingly thin squad for this difficult fixture.
  • Atleti have an abundance of depth to go off, especially in attack. They can easily grind down Villarreal for the three points and will likely do so on Sunday evening.
  • The home side have only conceded six goals at the Civitas this season, do not write off a clean sheet for Simeone's men.
