Team News

Athletic Club
Real Betis
  • Unai Gómez should come in to replace the suspended Oihan Sancet, who picked up two yellow cards against Osasuna.
  • Gorka Guruzeta made his first league start up front last week, moving out Iñaki Williams to the right flank, and scored in the club's 2-0 victory. Ernesto Valverde should employ the same tactics against Betis.
  • Youngster Imanol García de Albéniz made his full debut last week and should keep his place instead of Inigo Lekue.
  • Luiz Henrique will be unavailable for selection, picking up a fresh injury that will rule him out until mid-September.
  • Borja Iglesias should start up front again but has been unable to score in two matches, leaving the door open to a potential start for Willian Jose.

Prediction

  • Both sides have had a decent start to La Liga this year, and either could be good value to reach the European places come the end of the season.
  • Betis have won two of the clubs' last three meetings however, both being tight 1-0 victories. Little will separate the two, but with Athletic Club coming into this one off the back of a convincing 2-0 victory over Osasuna last week, they have a point to prove at el San Mames on Sunday.
  • Manuel Pellegrini, and his brilliant new signing Isco, will have other plans. The Spanish attacker has recorded two man of the match performances in his first two games as a Betis player and will undoubtedly be relied upon again come the weekend. Jude Bellingham was able to damage the hosts from the same position in gameweek one and Bilbao could well double up on Isco in this match.
  • It will not be a goal fest on Sunday, but a draw is the most likely outcome.
