Team News

Real Sociedad
Girona
  • New signing André Silva is a doubt for Real. The Portuguese striker, who signed from RB Leipzig this summer, is steadily recovering from an ongoing muscular injury.
  • Hamari Traoré is expected to make his La Liga debut at right-back, having joined from Rennes.
  • Martín Merquelanz is still out with a knee injury.
  • Midfield star Yangel Herrera has finally moved away from Manchester City following numerous loans, making his deal permanent with Girona. He will undoubtedly start for the club on Saturday.
  • Daley Blind, arriving on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, will likely start following the departure of Oriol Romeu to Barcelona.
  • Central defender Bernardo will miss the game due to suspension; Toni Villa will not return to action until mid 2024 with an ACL injury.

Prediction

  • Real Sociedad - who last season secured Champions League football for only the second time in a decade - look in good stead to kick off their La Liga campaign with a win over mid-table Girona. The Donostia side's squad is in good health, with Umar Sadiq and Takefusa Kubo seemingly over their respective injury woes from last season. The club have dipped into the transfer market to sign Hamad Traoré on a free, and André Silva on loan from RB Leipzig, while still holding onto much of the funds earned from selling Alexander Isak to Newcastle United in January.
  • Girona have managed to make a number of previous loan signings permanent this summer, notably Yangel Herrera from Manchester City. However, the club weren't able to keep Valentín Castellanos from New York City FC, who joined Lazio this summer. Cristhian Stuani will lead the line instead this season, with the backing of new signing Artem Dovbyk from Dnipro, but the visitors could struggle for attacking opportunities in this one.
