Team News

Sevilla
Valencia
  • New signing Djibril Sow is could start for Sevilla in their La Liga opener - an injection of pace and power into their experienced but otherwise ageing midfield.
  • Marko Dmitrovic is likely to keep his place as the starting goalkeeper with Yassine Bounou still linked with a move away from the club.
  • Adria Pedroza has featured in pre-season for the club since his arrival from Espanyol this summer. His injury-plagued campaign last year saw him barely play, however, he is fit and ready to play a supporting role.
  • Midfielder Pepelu, who last season boldly signed a 'lifetime' contract with boyhood club Levante, joins Rubén Baraja's side as an exciting prospect, who will likely be deployed to fill the hole left by previous star Yunus Musah, who joined AC Milan last week.
  • New boy Cenk Özkaçar is fit and ready to play, but is likely to start from the bench.

Prediction

  • Sevilla, having had the backing of new sporting director Víctor Orta this summer, look to build on a previous campaign that yielded mixed results. The club will play in the Champions League this season having won the Europa League in May, but will too be focusing on a strong start in La Liga having finished 12th last year - their worst domestic finish since 2000. Whilst able to field a strong eleven, the club have only signed three players this summer and could struggle balancing mid-week and weekend fixtures as the months progress. However, having held their own against Spanish opposition in pre-season, Sevilla could well start strongly on the opening weekend.
  • Valencia, once European regulars too, finished 16th last season and were odds on to be relegated for a large portion of the year. The exciting signing of native midfielder Pepelu provides hope for improved results, but Valencia will likely struggle without USMNT star Yunus Musah in the centre of the pitch following his departure for Italy
