Team News

Brighton
Newcastle
  • Roberto De Zerbi may be tempted to ring the changes following a 3-1 defeat at West Ham but it was something of a freak result so expect most to keep their places.
  • Joao Pedro should come into the attack, while the likes of Jason Steele, Jan Paul van Hecke, Joel Veltman and Mahmoud Dahoud are also waiting in the wings.
  • Sven Botman has suffered an ankle injury, which could see new signing Lewis Hall thrust into action sooner than Eddie Howe would perhaps have liked given Dan Burn will likely shift to centre-back.
  • Matt Targett is the alternative at left-back and may get the nod this time around.
  • Joelinton is a doubt once again due to a knee injury, with Sean Longstaff waiting to deputise in the continued absence of Joe Willock.
  • Elsewhere the likes of Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson may continue to have to bide their time for a first start of the season.

Prediction

  • This should be a fascinating encounter between two teams that play at a very high intensity and will have to manage their squads carefully this season to cope with the unfamiliar rigours of European football.
  • The two will be vying for that same goal this season but were both perhaps dealt a dose of reality after failing to make their chances count in defeats last time out.
  • Brighton have failed to beat Newcastle across the last two seasons but will be determined to bounce back from a shock defeat to West Ham. They may, however, have to make do with a share of the spoils.
