Team News

Excelsior
FC Volendam
  • Jacky Donkor (knee) and Yassine Ayoub (leg) are ruled out for Excelsior through respective injuries, while Kik Pierie is doubtful.
  • Following their 1-0 loss to Rotterdam neighbours Sparta last time out head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen could make few changes to his lineup with the likes of Peer Koopmeiners, Lazaros Lamprou and Mike van Duinen all pushing for starts.
  • Francesco Antonucci and Achraf Douiri are both doubtful for FC Volendam this weekend.

Prediction

  • Excelsior couldn't make it back-to-back Eredivisie wins last weekend as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Sparta Rotterdam, leaving them in 16th place. That setback was Marinus Dijkhuizen's side's fourth loss across their previous five league outings. Goalscoring has been hard to come by for Excelsior with no fewer than seven players on two goals. On home soil Excelsior boast a modest record having won four of their seven matches to date. They'll be seeking consecutive wins at Van Donge & De Roo Stadion on Friday evening.
  • Volendam has seemingly turned a corner having now won successive Eredivisie games (3-0 at Cambuur and 2-1 v RKC Waalwijk) which has moved them into 17th place, albeit one point adrift of safety. Across those successes, Volendam have been indebted to five different goalscorers, that being said Robert Mühren is their leading scorer with four goals. However, they come into this week's game with a poor away record, across their last eight away from home, Volendam have returned home with one win. That aforementioned Cambuur success consequently ended a seven-game winless streak (one draw and seven losses).
