Team News

Chelsea
Liverpool
  • Thomas Tuchel has revealed everyone but Ben Chilwell trained on Friday ahead of Sunday's Carabao Cup final.
  • That means Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech are fine after coming off injured against Lille earlier in the week.
  • Callum Hudson-Odoi is therefore available and Reece James could make the matchday squad for the first time in 2022.
  • Mason Mount returned from an ankle injury in midweek but may have to settle for a place on the bench at Wembley.
  • Out of form Romelu Lukaku was dropped and didn't even come on against Lille raising doubts whether he will start Sunday's final.
  • Christian Pulisic scored in midweek and will hope to keep his place in the team alongside Kai Havertz.
  • Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah are battling to start in defence if Thomas Tuchel goes with a back three.
  • Diogo Jota is on track to return from an ankle injury to make Sunday's Carabao Cup final but Roberto Firmino looks set to miss out. New signing Luis Diaz is on standby to start if Jota isn't fit enough.
  • Jurgen Klopp has already confirmed Caoimhin Kelleher will start in goal in the final and not usual first-choice Alisson.

Prediction

  • Thomas Tuchel has big decisions to make for Sunday's final. Does he go with a back three or back four against Liverpool? Will Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech be fit enough to start? Does he recall Romelu Lukaku after benching him against Lille on Tuesday? Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners in midweek but they weren't overly convincing. They haven't been for a number of weeks now, in truth, despite only losing once since Christmas in all competitions.
  • Things seem to be going Liverpool's way at the moment and they should be full of confidence here after a 6-0 win over Leeds in midweek. They have slowly cut into Manchester City's lead at the top of the Premier League and it's now down to just three points. Now they are looking to win a domestic cup for the first time in a decade.
  • Chelsea and Liverpool have already faced off twice in the Premier League this season and both matches ended in a draw. All three games between the clubs with these two managers have been tight games but you have to favour Liverpool slightly here given the mood of the two clubs at present.

  • This match make me realize without goals jota only average championship player

  • @Guby This match where Jota was injured and rushed back into the team despite being nowhere near fully fit? It's stupid to judge a player off one match. But it's very stupid to judge a player off one match that they are not even fully fit for. Your football intelligence is close to zero.

  • Splint3r and Chilly_B, your boys took ONE HELL OF A BEATING!!

  • @Nico1 Rent free

  • @splint3r Rattled

  • @splint3r lol you really don't know what that means.

  • Lol

  • I thought van Dijk's penalty was the best. For some strange reason Kepa goes already to the left side of the goal and leaves 2/3rd of it wide open. Van Dijk just looks at him calmly and then blasts the ball exactly in the corner where Kepa stands. What a demoralizing move that must have been ...

  • @neumi17 correct, we can see that from his expression after scoring. He was staring at kepa

  • Kelleher deserves more than a 6.7

  • @Daraba Ig its the same reason as for Kepa, as Kelleher failed to save 10penalties, I never knew/noticed that they rate penalty shootouts as well.

  • Van dijk is such an amazing player

  • Mendy was in a great shape, which boosts his confidence, he shouldn't have changed him, subbing in a player only to join penalties is always a big mistake, dozens of example and coaches still didn't learn that.

  • this the best final of carabao cup ever xD

  • @otmae very wonderful game

  • Kepa LMAO

  • @TetouanMorocco Bad choice from tuchel

  • @TetouanMorocco Rating 3.5 ... :-0

  • @neumi17 Hahahaha how is that even possible, they counted the miss? I follow whoscored since 2014, this is the lowest number ive ever seen

  • @TetouanMorocco Well, Kepa did basically everything wrong. He couldn't stop one penalty, not even the one on van Dijk, who shot exactly in the corner he was standing and than was the only player who missed the goal completely.

  • @TetouanMorocco same here, couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Bet he wishes Mendy had taken a leaf out of his book and refused to come off!

  • Lol.. Lol.. Kepa

  • amazing game .mane should not be the out tho jota should play for sure . and you cannot get diaz out he's playing good too... salah no way , cause we can go to penalties ... i'd rather have mane than diaz

  • Lakaka is just useless as usual, always sticks to the CBs, yet can’t position himself so he can be passed.

  • Liverpool have no chance here actually

  • @Chilly_B Liverpool was already favourite before the game, they were on a better run rather than narrow wins like Chelsea and odds were always on Liverpool's favour until getting equalised at penalties. They were the better team just as experts predicted and simply deserved but random Afghan guy on the Internet will you tell that no chance for Liverpool, routine rubbish comment.

  • @Chilly_B Why is that ?

  • @neumi17 just watch

  • @Chilly_B Yes I did

  • @Chilly_B how I really hope that someone like you don’t support the club I support, you’re just making us look bad.

  • @Frei78 you don't support Chelsea you clown

  • @Chilly_B you’re such a bad omen, every time you brags before matches we lose, please just support other teams instead.

  • @Chilly_B you’re such a bad omen, every time you brags before matches we lose, please just support other teams.

  • @Frei78 Don't hate on another Chelsea fan! If you're even actually a Chelsea fan. We must stick together.

  • @Chilly_B interesting...

  • Chelsea will win, klopp bottlers

  • @Guby Haha, no.

  • if Liverpool want the trophy they will win. Is that simple..

  • @Barele WTF? They are not invincible, they cannot do what they want. The same applies to Manchester City.

  • @splint3r You literally said "Chelsea are winning this trophy and there's nothing anyone can do about it". You're an absolute clown.

  • Today we're all Liverpool fans! Kick their teeth in

  • Love for Salah

  • @SagorSrkian No.

  • Btw Ziyech's injury wasn't serious thankfully, he should be fit and ready to start.

  • Draw, and if Kepa starts Chelsea wins on penalties.

  • @TetouanMorocco This one aged very well, expected Kelleher to miss instead to be honest.

  • @Byakuya Both were aweful in penalties, they follow the ball and somehow they never save it, Kell's shot was class tho, and tbh I said ''starts'' I never agrees on the 119‘ subs as it takes time to join the game.

  • Liverpool 1-0

  • Both teams to score. Chelsea lift the trophy.

  • @Yeng_Dai_Chin You could hardly have been more wrong.

  • Chelsea will pull this off, Klopp has proved that he couldn't care less about domestic trophies and Chelsea are capable of beating Liverpool. I think 2-1 final score it will be close

  • The reason for a prediction is "the mood of the teams"? What does this even mean??? This web site needs to stop over-rating Liverpool.

  • @splint3r Maybe they mean form? You know, as in which team is player better football right now.

  • @splint3r I mean they did just win 6-0

  • @Chilly_B Yeah, against lowly Leeds United. Get a grip, fellow Chels!

  • Liverpool are winning this trophy and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

  • @Biggie_Cheese Rent free

  • @splint3r ratio

  • @Biggie_Cheese grow up you child

  • @Chilly_B ratio

  • @Biggie_Cheese seek the touch of a woman

  • @Biggie_Cheese You're pathetic.

  • Chelsea are winning this trophy and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

  • @splint3r it seems that other people were right to be sKEPAtical.

  • @MEHJones OK, you've said something funny for the first time ever on this web-site. I'll give that to you. Kudos.

  • @splint3r except for Liverpool
