Team News

Athletic Club
Deportivo Alaves
  • Yuri Berchiche and Peru Nolaskoain remain out after operations.
  • Asier Villalibre is also out here, meaning Raul Garcia will keep his place up top.
  • But there is progress elsewhere with Yeray Alvarez and Oihan Sancet recovering from respective injuries.
  • Little change is expected here for Athletic Club.
  • Injury issues are clearing up for Alaves. Florian Lejeune and Ruben Duarte both remain doubts but are expected to be healthy enough to start this one.
  • Pere Pons and Edgar Mendez are also doubts, but for the first time in a number of weeks, no one has been ruled out just yet.
  • Javi Calleja had success with the three-at-the-back system last time out and it's expected it will be kept here.

Prediction

  • Athletic Club are on something of a wobble after an impressive start to the campaign, failing to win any of their last three games.
  • Last time out, they should have taken all three points away to Valencia having gone into the final moments with a one-goal lead and an extra man after the home side had a player sent off, but they conceded deep into injury time and Inigo Martinez's opener was cancelled out.
  • That followed a defeat to Rayo Vallecano and a draw with Atletico Madrid for Marcelino's men, and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways here.
  • Speaking of desperate, that sums up Alaves' mood at the moment after they had lost all of their first five games of the season. Though, they ended that dreadful run last time out with a stunning result.
  • Javi Calleja's men took an early lead against Atletico Madrid through Victor Laguardia and never looked back, defending excellently to see out the win against the champions.
  • The Basque side will be hoping for similar success here after such a disastrous start, but away from home and against an energetic Athletic Club, they are likely to come up short.
