Team News

Valencia
Deportivo Alaves
  • Giorgi Mamardashvili will likely keep his place in goal having unexpectedly impressed to date, despite having been signed for the B team.
  • Jaume Domenech remains a doubt, while Jasper Cillissen is now in contention and will challenge Mamardashvili.
  • Cristiano Piccini is a doubt with a muscular injury, while Alex Blanco and Vicente Esquerdo are lacking match fitness.
  • Alaves still have a fully fit squad, but they will be without key defender Rubén Duarte, who is suspended.
  • Duarte picked up two yellow cards last time out and is banned for one match as a result.
  • Aside from Duarte, who will likely be replaced by Javi Lopez, Alaves are expected to stay as they are.
  • They have strengthened with the signing of Chelsea defender Matt Miazga on loan, but the American is unlikely to start to soon after arriving.

Prediction

  • Neither of these sides have been particularly good in their opening games, though Valencia have a lot more to show for their efforts.
  • Valencia won their opener against Getafe and took a point last time out in controversial circumstances. Pepe Bordalas' men were given a penalty in the 88th-minute despite VAR appearing to show very-little-to-no contact. Nevertheless, Carlos Soler stepped up, as he did in the opening game, and scored, this time securing a late point against Granada. Still, Valencia haven't performed particularly well in either match, and the same can certainly be said of Alaves, who have arguably been the worst performers in the league from the first two games.
  • Javi Calleja's men were brushed aside with ease by Real Madrid before losing to newly promoted Mallorca at home last time out. A much better performance is required of the Basque side here, but they are likely to come up short against Valencia.
