Team News

Liverpool
Man City
  • Jurgen Klopp still has a lenghty injury list to contend with ahead of the Capital One Cup final meeting with Manchester City, with Joe Gomez, Danny Ings, Martin Skrtel, Adam Lallana, Brad Smith and Joe Allen all sidelined here.
  • Jordan Rossiter and Dejan Lovren will be assessed closer to kick off, though Klopp could resist the temptation to throw them straight back into action.
  • Steven Caulker is ineligible for the Reds having played in the competition earlier in the season for Southampton.
  • All in all, Klopp could deploy the same starting XI as the one used from Thursday's 1-0 win over Augsburg, meaning Lucas Leiva would start at centre-back alongside Mamadou Sakho.
  • Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly set to stick with Willy Caballero in goal despite his poor performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup.
  • The City boss is without injured trio Samir Nasri, Fabian Delph and Kevin De Bruyne, but Jesus Navas and Wilfried Bony have returned to training and could be available.
  • Fernando and Fernandinho are expected to anchor the midfield here, with Yaya Toure set to feature behind striker Sergio Aguero.
  • Elsewhere, Pellegrini has the choice of Gael Clichy and Alesandar Kolarov at left-back, with the former likely to start.

Prediction

  • Liverpool secured their place in the next round of the Europa League following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ausgburg on Thursday night, which will have buoyed confidence ahead of Sunday's Capital One Cup final. The Reds have won three of their last four competitive meetings with Manchester City, including a thumping 4-1 win at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season.
  • A 3-1 win in Kyiv on Wednesday night brought to an end City's three-game winless run, with that coming just in time for Sunday's final. The Citizens, though, have failed to win their last four trips to London, losing three, with their struggles in the nation's capital painstakingly evident.
  • This is a tough tie to call and one that could go all the way to penalties, with a draw on the cards at Wembley.

  • I am so happy for Willy Caballero, they said he was crap but I remember him at Malaga and he was sick... Happy he proved his doubters wrong

  • @MSNism Agreed about Willy. I saw him live vs Barcelona on La Rosaleda back in 2011. He did a very good job against Leo Messi, Iniesta, Pedro and Tiago who kept on bashing him with hard shots over and over again. In the penalty shootout today, both goalkeepers did well but Caballero was spectacular indeed.

  • Mignolet is awful, why make world class saves if you can't keep out routine ones?

  • 1-1 extra time, then penalties. Liverpool to win on pens.

  • @rogue, close but no cigar :/

  • i wonder when will liverpool finally replace mignolet

  • @XsTream then an incredible stop vs aguero

  • @MSNism he s the most bipolar keeper i ve seen, some amazing saves but some very stupid mistakes aswell.

  • @XsTream Mignolet made two amazing saves to actually take it to extra time..

  • @MSNism So did Caballero, kind of

  • @XsTream They need to bin this entire group.

  • Ultimately a tale of two keepers. When there was a ruckus between Toure and Lallana it looked like Fernandinho was pulling Lallana's beard lol. When Toure scored the final penalty for City to win, he took his shirt off and ran off expecting eveybody to follow him, the team all ran to congratulate Caballero instead hahaha so funny. Well done City on winning the league cup.

  • why MIlner takes all corners and free kicks? they want to stay at 0 ? lol

  • @koziol.mutant As a City fan, I never knew why he took our corners either. He must have delivered about 3 good ones in all the ones he took. I don't know how he is so bad at corners...

  • Absolutely disgraceful seeing teams take the Tin Pot seriously, but not the FA Cup. I hope Liverpool gives them a spanking.

  • @What4 Don't take it too personally mate, if you were in Pellegrini's shoes and you knew you were out of a job at the end of the season, what's your motivation?

  • @SlippinJimmy Throughout his time at Man City, Pellegrini has favoured the League Cup over the FA Cup, and this season has just been the straw that broke the camel's back. And anyway, Pellegrini has professional pride, he'll obviously be in demand when he leaves.

  • Liverpool rely too much on attacking down the wings. their midfielders are rubbish. Clyne did better than Henderson and Can meaning there are no creative midfielders move the ball through the center.

  • Come on Liverpool!

  • I seriously dislike Yaya Toure. He is firstly so arrogant, with the whole Aubameyang winning the African POTY and second in the fight in this match, he tried to pick up Lallana and dump him on the floor. That is uncalled for..

  • @MSNism Lallana was the one at fault in that incident, overreacting and then trying to start a fight with someone who would easily knock him out

  • @MSNism And obviously wants the glory with the winning penalty but well done Caballero!

  • 4 shots on goal after 114 min is not so hot for LiverpoolI think...

  • i believe in Liverpool, let's go Mr.Klopp!!!

  • As long as Liverpool have a good day, we'll win. That said, we're inconsistent and prone to errors, so we'll need to be focused. Should be an entertaining game, I'm predicting 3-1 to Liverpool and Coutinho MOTM.

  • no de bruyne no kompany no party :'(

  • The only person that convert a penalty for Liverpool was a German. Think about it...

  • Milner, henderson and can are average players. They are lucky to have no conccurrence in liverpool bench.

  • Liverpool to win <3

  • Oh my god. How many times did referees mistreated City this season. Another penalty not given to them. Unfair...

  • not bad to score playing with 10 men +useless Milner

  • City may be back in title contention if they win this one.

  • smell Mignolet will be penalties hero :)

  • It will be a close match. Full time score of 2-2 and Liverpool will win from there.

  • Liverpool can win this if they press City's back line.

  • I think that if Kompany plays then City will win. I expect a high scoring game with Aguero enjoying a good afternoon against Sakho.

  • Will Liverpool win this cup this time? Players are totally disgrace with no balls to dare this season. although wish for win. Hope there will be Klopp effect.

  • Milner useless again, Sterling is worth 5 mln not 50 on the other hand

  • Yaya should've been sent off. The wrong team won today, everybody from City except Caballero were awful. What a disgrace to park the bus in a cup final.

  • All I've learned is that Aguero wouldn't have score either if he played instead of Higuain and Palacio against Germany. It's ironic that Messi lost the WC because he dropped deep to help the team. If he just walked near the box the whole game he might have gotten a hat trick
