The following are our expert's tips - remaining within the £100m budget - that we feel could give you a competitive edge this time around. 

Hugo Lloris - £4.4m (home vs Hull) 

Tottenham may have shipped three at Stoke last time out, but when one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League is available for just £4.4m, it’s difficult to overlook this shotstopper. Hugo Lloris may have been dealt a poor hand with regards to the defence in front of him, but then Spurs welcome a Hull side that has struggled on the road this term. The Tigers have lost 5 of their last 8 away games, during which they have scored just 4 goals and should Spurs secure a clean sheet in this fixture, chances are they will have Lloris to thank. 

Aaron Cresswell - £7.6m (home vs Everton) 

Aaron Cresswell’s confidence is likely to be sky high after picking up a hat-trick of trophies at the West Ham United Player Awards last week and the English left-back will now hope he can repay the faith shown in him when Everton travel to the capital on Saturday. The Toffees have won only 1 of their last 6 league games away from home, with West Ham capable of prolonging their woes on the road this week. The WhoScored match forecast suggests West Ham ‘will create many scoring chances’ and with Cresswell boasting statistically calculated strengths of ‘key passes’ and ‘crossing’, the 25-year-old has a big part to play for the Hammers.

John Terry - £9.8m (away vs West Brom) 

John Terry played a central role in Chelsea’s procession to their 4th Premier League title this season and despite having nothing to play for, don’t expect the Blues skipper to ease up just because the title has been sewn up. Terry is 1 of only 7 players to play every minute in England’s top tier this term and he is expected to marshal the backline at Hawthorns on Monday night. Not only has the experienced centre-back formed part of a defence that has shipped only 20 goals away from home this season, but Terry also has 5 league goals to his name so far, 2 of which have come in his last 3 appearances.

James Collins - £6.0m (home vs Everton) 

After ankle surgery ruled Leighton Baines out for the rest of the season, Everton will be without their key creator at Upton Park. The left-back has registered more assists than any other defender in Europe’s top 5 leagues this season (9), so his absence is a huge blow. With that, James Collins could be vital for West Ham in their quest to keep a clean sheet against the Toffees. The Hammers have shipped just 1 goal in their last 3 home league games, while the WhoScored match forecast suggests West Ham ‘will dominate in the air’. Collins has gained a strength of ‘aerial duels’, so expect the Wales international to not only repel any aerial offensive thrown his way, but also provide an attacking threat for his side. 

Jason Puncheon - £7.6m (away vs Liverpool) 

The big shock ahead of Crystal Palace’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last weekend was that Jason Puncheon was not included in the starting XI. After an underwhelming opening 45 minutes, the attacker was introduced for the second half, with his influence immediate after he netted a free kick to draw the Eagles level, helping him gain the best WhoScored rating (7.36) of all Palace players. Puncheon has played the most key passes from set pieces (33) in the Premier League this season and is expected to return to the starting XI at Liverpool, where he could play a crucial role in Palace’s attempts to net at the weekend.

Charlie Adam - £9.4m (away vs Burnley) 

No team has won fewer points at home than Burnley (18) in the Premier League this season, while the Clarets have nothing but pride to play for this weekend after their relegation was confirmed, despite a win over Hull last time out. Up against a Stoke side that has lost just 1 of their last 5 league games, Burnley may struggle to contain the Potters, with Charlie Adam currently in a rich vein of goalscoring form. The Scot may have just 6 league goals to his name this term, but 4 of those have come in his last 6 league appearances, so expect him to star in this one.

Riyad Mahrez - £9.9m (away vs Sunderland) 

Sunderland may have hit form at just the right time, but they are still locked in the relegation battle coming into the final stretch of the season. A huge clash at the foot of the table will take place at the Stadium of Light this weekend when Leicester make the trip to Wearside. The Foxes have hauled themselves up the table, with a 2-0 win over Southampton bringing them closer to Premier League safety. Riyad Mahrez netted twice in the victory over Saints last Saturday and will be tasked with adding to his 4 league goals this season against a Sunderland side that is conceding an average of 16.1 shots per league - no team is shipping more in England’s top tier - and has conceded a joint worst 27 goals on home turf in the Premier League this campaign. 

Tom Cleverley - £9.1m (away vs Southampton) 

A number of players have found a new lease of life under Tim Sherwood, with Christian Benteke the stand out candidate. Another who has begun to rediscover his best form with Sherwood at the Aston Villa helm, though, is Tom Cleverley, who has found his goalscoring touch of late, with each of Cleverley’s 3 league goals this season coming in his last 3 league appearances. A trip to Southampton may not be the easiest to navigate, but having shipped 8 goals in their last 4 league games, Saints are there for the taking. 

Jermain Defoe - £8.1m (home vs Leicester) 

Only Connor Wickham (5) has scored more Premier League goals than Jermain Defoe (4) of all Sunderland players this season, despite only making his Black Cats debut in January. The English striker was somewhat fortuitous to net against Everton on Saturday, though at this stage of the season, any relegation threatened team will take all the luck they can get to remain in England’s top tier. Leicester have conceded 33 goals away from home in the Premier League this term and Sunderland will be hoping Defoe can increase that total at the Stadium of Light this weekend. 

Sergio Agüero - £17.7m (away vs Swansea City) 

The Premier League’s top goalscorer with 25 goals to his name, Sergio Agüero is undeniably the in-form marksman, with 8 of his league goals this term coming in his last 5 appearances. Manchester City may have forfeited their title this season, but Agüero is on a one-man mission to land the golden boot award and his addition to the team could bring in some big points should he replicate his exploits against QPR at the Liberty Stadium this weekend. 

Charlie Austin - £9.4m (home vs Newcastle) 

Newcastle’s 9-game winless run is currently the longest in the Premier League and while a 1-1 draw with West Brom may have stopped the rot, the Magpies remain in free fall in their bid to stave off relegation. QPR’s relegation may have been confirmed, but they will look to give their fans something to cheer for this weekend against an out-of-sorts Newcastle. With 17 goals to his name, Charlie Austin has been a shining light in the very grey sky looming over Loftus Road and has been one of the Premier League’s success stories this campaign. Up against a Newcastle side that has shipped 61 goals this season, Austin is presented with an ideal opportunity to add to his league tally at the weekend.
