Pogba usurped atop latest Premier League form rankings
Following a quite remarkable weekend of action in the Premier League we run through the latest player form rankings, with a change at the top and two new faces on the leaderboard…
10) Ben Foster (up 2) - 7.54
Having kept a third clean sheet in his last four appearances, Ben Foster has strengthened his case for a place in the team of the season of late and has proven to be an inspired signing by Watford. The veteran keeper made four saves at the weekend on route to a sixth consecutive rating in excess of seven (7.58).
9) Josh King (down 3) - 7.55
Ploughing a lonely furrow up front against Liverpool at the weekend, King was unable to impact proceedings and falls down the rankings as a result. The Norway international will likely need to pull a strong performance out of the bag against Wolves to keep his place in the top 10.
8) Heung-Min Son (down 3) - 7.55
Despite scoring late on against Leicester, it was far from Son’s best display in what has been a superb run of form, with a rating of 7.00 taking the place of the 8.77 he secured against Bournemouth on Boxing Day as far as the form rankings are concerned.
7) Jan Bednarek (up 1) - 7.63
Like Son, it wasn’t Bednarek’s finest game following an impressive streak for Saints but he rises one place despite the fact that his rating dipped slightly. With a trip to Arsenal up next, the Poland international will need to improve in order to retain his place in the top ten.
6) Ashley Barnes (up 9) - 7.67
The highest riser in this week’s leaderboard, Barnes climbs into the top ten from 15th having scored for a third game running at Brighton last time out. The Burnley forward also registered an assist to earn a man of the match rating of 8.67.
5) Raul Jimenez (down 2) - 7.68
Dropping two places having drawn a blank against Newcastle on Monday night, Jimenez had a direct hand in four goals in his three appearances previous, so his place on the leaderboard seems safe for the time being.
4) Joao Moutinho (up 3) - 7.71
He may have seen a run of five assists in three league matches come to an end against Newcastle but it was another strong performance from Moutinho. The Portuguese made five tackles and created four chances and like his aforementioned teammate has been an astute acquisition.
3) Paul Pogba (down 2) - 7.95
Down two by virtue only of the fact that Manchester City annihilated Chelsea, Pogba saw a rating increase following another two goals in United’s 3-0 win at Fulham. That said, his successive perfect 10 ratings against Huddersfield and Bournemouth have both now fallen out of consideration in this week’s rankings.
2) Sergio Aguero (up 2) - 8.05
After a truly remarkable early miss at The Etihad, Sergio Aguero was quick to atone for his error and bagged a third hat-trick of the season as City demolished Chelsea on Sunday. The Argentine now has seven goals in his last six league appearances, but just misses out on top spot having been pipped to the WhoScored.com man of the match award at the weekend.
1) Raheem Sterling (up 1) - 8.16
After a perfect 10 rating against Chelsea, Sterling is not only top of the form rankings but now level in the seasonal ratings thus far having scored twice and won a penalty on Sunday. The winger completed five dribbles for the fourth time in his last six appearances and must now surely be considered among the league’s very best players.
