Dybala leads Serie A player standings as Juventus dominate June best XI
Securing three wins from three matches to reignite their title defence post-lockdown, Juventus dominate the Serie A team of the month with no fewer than five players making the cut. Here we look at the top performers from each position to feature in the best XI for June in Italy's top tier...
Top Rated Defender: Juan Cuadrado (Juventus) - 8.10 rating
Continuing his development into a key player for Maurizio Sarri's Juventus, Juan Cuadrado's WhoScored rating of 8.10 is the best of all defenders in the Serie A team of the month. The Colombian was named the WhoScored man of the match from their hard fought 1-0 win at Bologna and provided the assist for Paulo Dybala's opener in their 3-1 win at Genoa on Tuesday night.
The 32-year-old pressed forward well in his three outings from right-back, completing seven dribbles and creating four goalscoring chances, and was defensively sound, too, making nine interceptions and eight tackles as Juventus conceded just one goal from three league outings.
Top Rated Midfielder: Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) - 8.26 rating
Juventus were imperious in June, winning all three league matches, with Cristiano Ronaldo netting a goal in all three wins. Ronaldo sits five goals behind Immobile in the race for the Capocannoniere with his three goals in June coming from 19 shots, with the Portuguese star willing to try his luck where possible to catch the Italian.
Three successful dribbles and three key passes contributed to a WhoScored rating of 8.26 last month, that the best of all midfielders and second in Italy's top tier overall last month.
Top Rated Forward: Paulo Dybala (Juventus) - 8.28 rating
Ensuring a Juventus clean sweep in this list, Paulo Dybala is not only the best rated Serie A forward for June, but the league's top rated player with a WhoScored rating of 8.28. Like Ronaldo, Dybala scored a goal in all three Juventus matches, while no player had a direct hand in more goals than the Argentine (4 - 3 goals, 1 assist) in Serie A in June.
Dybala was difficult to stop when he gained a head of steam, completing six dribbles, and could easily have had more assists to his name, too, having made seven key passes; only a handful of players made more in Serie A in June. All in all, his performances were enough to land the WhoScored player of the month award.
Top Rated Youngster: Theo Hernandez (AC Milan) - 7.62 rating
Of those aged 23 and under, it was Theo Hernandez who landed the best WhoScored rating in Serie A in June. In his two outings against Lecce and Roma, the French left-back earned an average rating of 7.62, picking up the WhoScored man of the match award in the 2-0 win over the latter, with his rating enough to make the Serie A team of the month.
Top Rated Player To Miss Out: Hakan Calhanoglu (AC Milan) - 8.24 rating
With a WhoScored rating of 8.24, Hakan Calhanoglu was the third best rated player in Serie A in June, but unfortunatly misses out on a place in the team of the month to Cristiano Ronaldo. The Turkish creator had a direct hand in three goals in his two league outings, providing two assists in the 4-1 win at Lecce and scoring the second from the spot in their 2-0 win over Roma, but falls just short of a spot in this side.
Ronaldo is a midfielder now, is he?
