Top four rivals Man Utd, Chelsea and Leicester dominate gameweek 33 top performers
There are only five games left to go in the Premier League and still plenty to play for even if Liverpool have already won the title. Gameweek 33 saw Manchester United up the ante on Chelsea and Leicester above them in the race for Champion League football, but both responded with important victories of their own. All three teams have players in the top-10 performers from gameweek 33, as we will now reveal, in addition to their Footstock prices.
10. James Justin (Leicester) - 8.00 rating / £2.45 Footstock price
Right-back James Justin was asked to play as a third centre-back in Leicester's 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, as Brendan Rodgers sought a tactical re-think in a bid to kickstart their season back into life. Even though Justin was asked to do more defensive work than he is used to, the 22-year-old managed more shots against Palace (2) than his previous seven league appearances combined (1) and was even denied by the woodwork. Justin also weighed in with seven tackles and won four aerial duels to help Leicester keep a clean sheet.
9. Joao Cancelo (Manchester City) - 8.11 rating / £1.84 Footstock price
With Kyle Walker rested, Joao Cancelo was given a rare run-out for Manchester City in their 1-0 defeat to Southampton. Cancelo finished as City's best rated player after finishing with nine tackles and interceptions combined and three key passes. The Portugal international also completed three dribbles and 92.9% of his attempted passes. It marked his second best display in a City shirt but it's not expected to earn him an extended run in the side.
8. Jamie Vardy (Leicester) - 8.31 rating / £3.91 Footstock price
After struggling to even get in the action during Leicester's first few matches back, Jamie Vardy finally found his grove in their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend. Vardy netted a brace, bringing up 100 Premier League career goals in the process, and is back in the driving seat for the Golden Boot award. Vardy now has 21 goals for the season and against Palace he attempted two more shots (6) than his previous three appearances of 'Project Restart' combined. A rating of 8.31 is his best in a Premier League game since the start of December.
7. Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton) - 8.34 rating / £0.57 Footstock price
Every Southampton player played their part in their hard-fought 1-0 win over Manchester City but right-back Kyle Walker-Peters was a notable performer for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side. On just his third league start of the season, Walker-Peters made nine tackles and interceptions combined and his sole key pass was a pin-point cross from deep that should have been converted by Danny Ings. The 23-year-old has often found life tough in the Premier League but Sunday's display was superb.
6. Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea) - 8.37 rating / £6.19 Footstock price
Fed up with Marcos Alonso and Emerson, Frank Lampard swapped Cesar Azpilicueta over the left-back, as he has done on occasions all season, and it paid dividends in their 3-0 win over Watford. The Spaniard registered his sixth assist of the season, equalling his best ever haul in a single Premier League campaign. His assist for Ross Barkley was one of four key passes managed against Watford.
5. James Tarkowski (Burnley) - 8.46 rating / £1.13 Footstock price
Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski has been in fine form since the restart and netted his first goal since November in their 1-1 draw with European hopefuls Sheffield United on Sunday. Tarkowski slotted in from a set-piece just before half-time but the Clarets couldn't hold on to all three points. In addition to netting his second league goal of the season, Tarkowski also won 12 aerial duels and made eight clearances.
4. Alex McCarthy (Southampton) - 8.47 rating / £1.21 Footstock price
In order to keep a clean sheet against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City you are going to need to defend for your lives, benefit from a bit of luck and hope your goalkeeper is in good form. That is exactly what happened for Southampton in their 1-0 win on Sunday, with Alex McCarthy backing up his defenders good work with six saves to earn the WhoScored Man of the Match at St. Mary's.
3. Mason Greenwood (Manchester United) - 8.52 rating / £29.44 Footstock price
Mason Greenwood's remarkable rise continued at the weekend, with the 18-year-old netting a brace in Manchester United's 5-2 victory over Bournemouth at Old Trafford. Greenwood scored with his left and right on Saturday, both explosive hits. The teenager scored from both attempts on goal and impressively completed 91.3% of his attempted passes. Greenwood has eight league goals for the season now despite only starting seven games.
2. Ross Barkley (Chelsea) - 8.62 rating / £3.71 Footstock price
Chelsea's Ross Barkley is sandwiched between two Manchester United players in our top-10 performers from gameweek 33 after playing a direct hand in two goals in a 3-0 victory at home to Watford. Barkley assisted Olivier Giroud for the opening goal of the game before rounding off the win with a late effort of his own.
1. Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 9.13 rating / £214.99 Footstock price
Claiming top spot and our Premier League player of the week is Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes. The 25-year-old played a direct hand in three goals in their 5-2 thumping of Bournemouth, to earn back-to-back WhoScored Man of the Match awards. Fernandes registered two assists and scored a free-kick in another outstanding display by United's January signing.
