Yahoo! Fantasy Football: Kane and Salah gunning for golden boot award

After blowing the chance to win the Premier League last weekend, all eyes are on whether Manchester City will slip up again this weekend when they make the trip to Wembley to face Tottenham.

The WhoScored Expert believes Tottenham can heap further misery on Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday, but it’s not the only game that comes into consideration on Yahoo! Fantasy Football.

We are targeting Saturday’s main contest with a chance of winning a share of £2,500 and have been tasked with the challenge of picking an XI from matches excluding the 12:30 kick off between Southampton and Chelsea.

Goalkeeper – LORIS KARIUS (LIVERPOOL)

Loris Karius finally appears to be settling at Liverpool after being given the No.1 jersey on a permanent basis by Jurgen Klopp back in January.

It remains to be seen whether Karius’ improved performances will be enough to warrant the No.1 jersey next season, but the German is giving it his best shot.

The 24-year-old has kept four clean sheets in a row at Anfield and will be eyeing a fifth when the Reds welcome Bournemouth on Saturday evening.

Defender – NATHANIEL CLYNE (LIVERPOOL)

Nathaniel Clyne will be hoping to continue the comeback trail when Liverpool play Bournemouth this weekend.

Klopp may look to shuffle his pack following another tough encounter with Manchester City and that could benefit the 27-year-old.

Clyne got his first 90 minutes of the season under his belt in last weekend’s Merseyside derby and will hope that continues here.

Liverpool are in a great position in the top four and the semi-finals of the Champions League and now is the time to cement a strong end to the season.

Defender – KIKO FEMENIA (WATFORD)

Javi Gracia has deployed Kiko Femenia further forward since being appointed as Watford manager in January and it’s in these situations where you need to capitalise on Yahoo! Fantasy Football.

Listed as a defender on the game, Femenia will not only collect all of the defensive bonus points, but by playing in a more advanced position, he has more chances to pick up offensive points on Yahoo! Fantasy Football.

The Hornets have endured a dip in form in recent weeks, but have the ideal opportunity to get back on track when they face Huddersfield this weekend. The Terriers are five games without a win and haven’t scored in four of those.

Defender – JAMES TOMKINS (CRYSTAL PALACE)

While Wilfried Zaha has rightly attracted the majority of the praise for Crystal Palace’s resurgence under Roy Hodgson, James Tomkins has quietly developed into one of the most important players in the squad.

Tomkins is now a real fan favourite among Palace supporters and there was surprise among fans that he didn’t receive an England call-up with Gareth Southgate turned to Alfie Mawson in the last international break.

Palace are arguably playing the best football of the teams around the bottom of the table and they will have the chance to get three more valuable points when they host Brighton on Saturday.

Midfielder – CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN (TOTTENHAM)

Arguably Tottenham’s most important player, Christian Eriksen will be key to their chances of fending off any late rally from Chelsea to cement fourth place.

Eriksen has enjoyed another superb campaign for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and took his tally for goals and assists to 18 in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Stoke.

The Denmark international played a direct hand in both goals and will be instrumental to their chances to heaping further misery on Manchester City on Saturday night.

Midfielder – LUKA MILIVOJEVIC (CRYSTAL PALACE)

Crystal Palace defensive midfielder Luka Milivojevic has remarkably now scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season after netting against Bournemouth last weekend.

In fact, only Mohamed Salah (12) and Sergio Aguero (9) have scored more Premier League goals than Milivojevic (7) in 2018.

Granted, seven of his 10 league goals have come from the penalty spot, but that isn’t a bad thing. Palace have won the most penalties in the Premier League this season, so there will always be opportunities for points with Milivojevic in your Yahoo! Fantasy Football XI.

Midfielder – JORDAN HENDERSON (LIVERPOOL)

Jordan Henderson will return to the heart of Liverpool’s midfield against Bournemouth on Saturday after serving a suspension in Tuesday’s 2-1 win away to Manchester City.

Only Nicolas Otamendi (93.1), Fernandinho (86.7), David Silva (83.2) and Granit Xhaka (82) average more passes per Premier League game than Henderson (76.1) this season.

With that in mind, Henderson is guaranteed to score points for his passing against a Bournemouth side sees less than half of the ball in away league games this season.

Midfielder – MARC ALRBIGHTON (LEICESTER)

There are murmurs of unrest at Leicester, but they have only lost one of their last five in the Premier League.

The Foxes will encounter a difficult match away to seventh placed Burnley on Saturday, but it’s not beyond their means to get a positive result this weekend.

Marc Albrighton is arguably one of the best crossers of the ball in the Premier League and that should always result in chances for Jamie Vardy to score.

The 28-year-old has registered seven assists in the league this season, which is already his best return in a single campaign.

Utility – MOHAMED SALAH (LIVERPOOL)

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah certainly didn’t see the funny side of Harry Kane being awarded Tottenham’s winner against Stoke last weekend on appeal.

It means that Salah only has a four-goal cushion in the race to finish as the golden boot winner in the Premier League this season.

However, the 25-year-old is in the form of his life at the moment and could become the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to net 30 goals this season.

The Egypt international has already scored against Bournemouth this season and is primed to do so again here.

Striker – HARRY KANE (TOTTENHAM)

Harry Kane has six games to chase down Mohamed Salah in the race to finish as this season's golden boot winner, but Tottenham do have a game in hand on Liverpool.

The Tottenham striker will need to be at his best to add to his tally of 25 league goals when they host Manchester City on Saturday night, but it’s well within his means to do so.

City have lost three games in a row and have seen their lead at the top of the Premier League cut to 13 points. Tottenham are primed to heap even more misery on Guardiola’s men.

Striker – CHRIS WOOD (BURNLEY)

Burnley have won four games in a row in the Premier League and are only five points adrift of sixth placed Arsenal, who are concentrating on winning the Europa League.

Chris Wood, back from injury, has been integral to Burnley’s purple patch, scoring in three of those games.

The 26-year-old has played a direct hand in five goals in that span and is looking to make up for lost time having missed nearly three months of the season through injury.
