WhoScored's Premier League Team of the Week: Super Son and Majestic Maddison shine as Tottenham dominate
Another Premier League weekend is behind us, and here we’re looking back at the standout performers from gameweek 16.

Arijanet Muric (Ipswich) - 8.31
Having secured their second league victory of the season at Wolves on Saturday, it’s Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric who earns a place between the posts in our Team of the Week. The Kosovan stopper made a total of five saves at Molineux, while he also managed two punched clearances, eight throws and four high claims.
Djed Spence (Tottenham) - 8.54
On his first Premier League start for Tottenham, full-back Djed Spence waited just 36 seconds to provide the assist for their opener against Southampton on Sunday evening. The 24-year-old looked more than assured at St Mary’s, making two key passes, two successful dribbles and three tackles.
Trevoh Chalobah (Crystal Palace) - 7.80
One of two local derbies to take place on Sunday afternoon came between Brighton and Crystal Palace at the Amex Stadium, where Trevoh Chalobah’s improvised effort from a corner put the visitors ahead after 27 minutes. The Chelsea loanee also managed two tackles, two blocks, two interceptions and eight clearances, in a solid defensive display.
Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City) - 7.44
Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol also played a part in a derby on Sunday but did not come out on the winning side, despite heading the champions in front against United 10 minutes before half-time. That goal was the 22-year-old’s fourth in the Premier League this season, and eighth since the beginning of 2024, both leading tallies among defenders in the division.
Antonee Robinson (Fulham) - 8.44
Slotting in at left-back is Fulham’s Antonee Robinson, whose fine form continued with a statement display in Saturday’s draw with league leaders Liverpool at Anfield. Robinson, who recently sat down with WhoScored in an exclusive interview, brought his tally of assists to six with two on Merseyside, while he also managed four key passes, five tackles, three interceptions and three ball recoveries.
Pape Sarr (Tottenham) - 9.19
The second of four Spurs stars to feature in our XI following Sunday’s thrashing of Southampton is midfielder Pape Sarr, who opened his account for the season in the Premier League with a fine individual effort in the 25th minute. By that stage, the visitors were four goals to the good and able to take their foot off the gas, nonetheless, Sarr also managed to make two key passes, two successful dribbles, three tackles and four interceptions.
Amad (Manchester United) - 8.74
The hero for the visiting side in Sunday’s Manchester Derby was 22-year-old attacker Amad, who was at the centre of a remarkable late turnaround at the Etihad Stadium, winning a penalty in the 88th minute before netting a breathtaking winner only two minutes later. The Ivorian also completed five successful dribbles and registered 10 touches in the opposition box, in a wonderful individual display.
Ismaila Sarr (Crystal Palace) - 9.30
Another attacker to star for his side in their local derby was Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr, who was directly involved in all three of the Eagles’ goals at Brighton on Sunday. The former Watford man provided the assist for Trevoh Chalobah to open the scoring, before doubling the visitors’ lead only six minutes later. Sarr would then go on to add a third for Palace on 82 minutes, capping a fine performance and by far his best rated in the Premier League this season.
James Maddison (Tottenham) - 9.08
The third Tottenham player to earn a place in our XI is James Maddison, who struck inside the first minute to put the visitors ahead against Southampton on Sunday, before firing home a second - his seventh of the season - on the stroke of half-time. Maddison also managed two key passes, three successful dribbles and six passes into the final third, contributing to a WhoScored rating of 9.08.
Son Heung-min (Tottenham) - 9.79
With a WhoScored rating of 9.79, it’s Spurs captain Son Heung-min who is named our Premier League Player of the Week, despite playing only 45 minutes of Sunday’s rout at St Mary’s. The 32-year-old played a part in three of his side’s five goals before the break, doubling the lead after 12 minutes, before providing assists for Pape Sarr and Maddison to add the fourth and fifth. The Korean star misplaced just one of the 16 passes he attempted while on the pitch, while he also made three key passes and fired off a remarkable seven shots.
Alexander Isak (Newcastle) - 9.69
Rounding off our Premier League Team of the Week is Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who both scored and assisted in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Leicester at St James’ Park. After a quieter first half, the Sweden international came alive in the second, heading home the hosts’ third of the afternoon on 50 minutes, before setting up Jacob Murphy 10 minutes later.
