Form Guide: Former Chelsea striker rises to the top of the rankings

The Premier League and Bundesliga seasons drew to a close over the weekend and with the championships already settled, there was little to play for at the top of the table in England and Germany. Bayern secured the title at a canter and it was no shock to see them boast, technically, five players in the team of the season.

James Rodriguez was one who made the cut as he was the best-rated player in Germany’s top tier with a WhoScored.com rating of 7.63. Rodriguez ended the campaign strongly, which is a boost for Colombia ahead of the World Cup. Indeed, the attacker is a new entry in the WhoScored.com form rankings, with his rating over his last six appearances a commendable 7.79. While he may trail a number of his European adversaries, the 26-year-old is heading to Russia with the wind in his sails.

Lyon paid Bertrand Traore and Memphis Depay retain the top two spots, but have switched positions, with the former moving ahead of the latter in the standings. Lyon’s winning run may have come to an abrupt end at Strasbourg, yet their flying form, and particularly that of Traore and Memphis, means the duo keep their spots at the top.

Wilfried Zaha makes up the podium having netted on the final day 2-0 win over West Brom, while Coutinho has surged up the rankings. Barcelona’s unbeaten run may have drawn to a close in a 5-4 loss at Levante, but the Brazilian was exceptional having bagged a hat-trick to move up to fourth with a WhoScored.com rating of 8.07 over his last six league appearances.

La Liga counterpart Gerard Moreno moved ahead of Dimitri Payet after netting his 16th league goal of the campaign to complete the top five. Elsewhere, Tunisian Naim Sliti surged further up to the leaderboard – he’s one to keep an eye on for England and Belgium fans as the World Cup nears – while Serie A duo Alejando Gomez and Rafinha both moved up in the form rankings.

Like Rodriguez, Marseille man Florian Thauvin is a new entry in the table with a WhoScored.com rating of 7.83 over his last six league appearances, while Nice striker Alassane Plea returns to the top-20 after dropping out last week having provided an assist in a 4-1 win over Caen at the weekend.

However, it’s bad news for Tanguy NDombele, Marcelo Brozovic and Daniel Caligiuri, who all plummeted down the rankings, with the trio all in danger of dropping out of the top 20 altogether.
