Ligue 1 round-up: Neymar brace lands him top performer accolade this week

After Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, PSG are one of two teams still to boast a 100% start to the season in Europe’s top five leagues after their comfortable 3-0 win at Nice on Saturday. The Ligue 1 champions were again impressive as they moved eight points clear at the top of the table having already netted 27 times after eight games. 

Neymar has had a direct hand in nine of those goals, scoring seven, and his brace on the French south coast means he is our Ligue 1 player of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.93. The Brazilian netted with two of his six shots in the victory while three key passes and one successful dribble saw him land the man of the match award in the win. 

PSG saw one of their top-4 rivals flounder at the weekend, as Lyon drew 1-1 with Nantes. OL dominated on home turf, but were unable to maximise hime advantage with goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu in inspired form. The Romanian made six saves in the stalemate, including a second penalty stop to deny Nail Fekir with 10 minutes to go, while three successful cross claims saw the shortstopper land a WhoScored rating of 8.81. 

Nicolas Benezet rounds off the top three best performers following his man of the match display in Guingamp’s hard-fought 1-0 win at Angers. The wideman scored the key goal in the victory, hitting the back of the net with one of his two shots, and could’ve had an assist having provided five key passes. The 27-year-old’s performance was enough to land a WhoScored rating 8.71. 

Footing the player ratings table this week is Marseille shotstopper Steve Mandanda following Marseille’s 3-0 loss at Lille. The Frenchman made just one save in the resounding loss and conceded a 63rd minute penalty that Nicolas Pepe scored from. With a booking to his name, Mandanda gained a WhoScored rating of just 4.77 in Marseille’s loss.
