Gameweek One Result

Italy kicked off Euro 2020 with a fine 3-0 win over dark horses Turkey to extend their solid record unbeaten record to 28 matches. Indeed, the Azzurri haven't lost since a 1-0 loss to Portugal in September 2018 and victory in the tournament curtain raiser in Rome certainly boosted morale. Merih Demiral's own goal kicked things off for Italy at the Olimpico before Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne added a second and third in a dominant display.

Switzerland thought they had won their first game at Euro 2020 when late sub Mario Gavranovic tucked past Danny Ward in their 1-1 draw with Wales, only for VAR to intervene. Breel Embolo put the Swiss ahead shortly after the break in Baku on Saturday only for his opener to be cancelled out by Kieffer Moore as Switzerland were forced to settle for a point.

Team News

Lorenzo Pellegrini is ruled out for the Azzurri on Monday night, but Marco Verratti is available having recently trained with the first team following a spell on the sidelines. The PSG man will hope to make his first start of the tournament. Club teammate Alessandro Florenzi is unlikely to recover in time for the meeting with Switzerland, which should see Giovani Di Lorenzo feature in his absence. Domenico Berardi will also be assessed, but Roberto Mancini is unlikely to make wholesale changes.

Switzerland have no injury concerns for their meeting with Italy, but Vladimir Petkovic may tinker with his personnel in Rome. Haris Seferovic spurned some good chances against Wales and after Mario Gavranovic netted his disallowed goal from the bench in Baku, he is pushing to feature from the off. Denis Zakaria is another looking to start in midfield.

Key Battle: Jorginho vs Granit Xhaka

Italy vs Switzerland: Euro 2020 team news and prediction

Jorginho did what he does best in Italy's 3-0 win over Turkey, playing a central role in their opening round victory. The Chelsea midfielder yielded a WhoScored rating of 8.18 against Turkey, enough to land a spot in the team of the round, and that should buoy the 29-year-old as Italy look to make it two wins from two.

Granit Xhaka could be in for a preview of what is to come at the Olimpico if reports of a move to Roma come to fruition. The Switzerland star has divided opinion among Arsenal fans following his 2016 arrival from Gladbach, yet while the 28-year-old still put in another solid shift in the Gunners midfield in 2020/21, there are some who wouldn't shed a tear to see the back of Xhaka this summer. Conversely, a standout display against Italy may not sit well with his potential future employers...

Score Prediction: Italy 2-0 Switzerland
