West Ham 0-1 Tottenham Ratings Explained: Spurs secure fourth successive league win

Erik Lamela's first half header proved to be the difference as Tottenham overcame West Ham 1-0 at the London Stadium.

WEST HAM - 6.67

Lukasz Fabianski - 6.43 - Made a crucial double save to deny an Erik Lamela cross-come-shot and Davinson Sanchez on the stroke of half time. While West Ham couldn’t fight their way back into the match, it was a key moment that kept the Hammers in the match.

Pablo Zabaleta - 6.61 - Not a standout display, but did little wrong at right-back either. Won three aerial duels and made one tackle.

Fabian Balbuena - 7.25 - Solid once more alongside Issa Diop at the heart of the West Ham defence. Quickly adjusting to the rigours of English football following a slow start to life in London as he today won eight aerial duels.

Issa Diop - 7.42 - Has come on leaps and bounds for the Hammers. Solid at the back as he kept Spurs striker Harry Kane at bay with ease and was rightly West Ham’s best-rated player in the loss.

Aaron Cresswell - 7.18 - Deputised for the injured Arthur Masuaku and put in a better performance than has been seen from the left-back in the past as he made three tackles.

Mark Noble - 6.13 - After a couple of solid performances in the West Ham midfield, the Hammers captain looked a little lost without Pedro Obiang alongside him in the middle of the park. Failed to make a tackle before coming off with 20 minutes to play.

Declan Rice - 7.28 - Continues to excel in starting XI. Made more tackles (7) than any other player in the defeat as he put in another performance beyond his teenage years.

Andriy Yarmolenko - 6.22 - Was forced off through injury at the end of the first half. Was kept relatively quiet before his withdrawal after 40 minutes and perhaps should not have started having only returned from international duty on Wednesday.

Felipe Anderson - 5.79 - Put in a few poor corners in the first half and was beaten too easily by Moussa Sissoko for Erik Lamela’s goal. The latter then comfortably got the better of the Brazilian minutes later before he came off after 57 minutes following a hugely ineffective display.

Robert Snodgrass - 6.81 - Replaced the injured Pedro Obiang in the starting XI. Made more key passes (4) than any other player in the loss, but he can’t expect to keep his place in the side once Obiang returns.

Marko Arnautovic - 7.10 - Unlucky not to draw West Ham level early in the second half as his header was superbly tipped onto the bar by Hugo Lloris. Forced Lloris into another good stop on the hour mark as West Ham pressed for an equaliser. Was denied again late on as he led the line well for the hosts. Saw a second half goal ruled out for offside too.

Subs

Grady Diangana - 6.73 - Made only his second league appearance of his short career as he replaced Andriy Yarmolenko with five minutes of the first half remaining. There’s a reason Manuel Pellegrini called on him again as he made five tackles and completed two dribbles.

Chicharito - 6.16 - Came close to providing an expert assist in injury time, but was quiet other than that.

Michail Antonio - 6.26 - Looked a threat, but couldn’t force the issue for the home side.

TOTTENHAM - 6.86

Hugo Lloris - 7.79 - Excellently tipped a Marko Arnautovic header onto the bar and away for a corner at the beginning of the second half after a quiet first half. Was equal to the Austrian’s low drive on the hour mark to keep Tottenham ahead. Produced a huge save to deny Arnautovic in injury time.

Kieran Trippier - 7.11 - Not at his best offensively, but was effective at the back as he made three tackles and five clearances to ensure a clean sheet and three points for Spurs.

Toby Alderweireld - 7.12 - Made a crucial block to turn a Robert Snodgrass effort away for a corner when the scores were level. Was on hand to mop up at the back as he made six clearances and three interceptions.

Davinson Sanchez - 6.64 - A performance to work on as he struggled with the movement and physicality of Marko Arnautovic. Was bullied off the ball by the Austrian in injury time that forced Hugo Loris into a smart stop.

Ben Davies - 6.57 - His wasn’t a display that suggests he deserves to keep his starting spot at left-back once Danny Rose recovers from injury.

Eric Dier - 6.96 - A better performance from the midfielder, who had looked off the pace in the early weeks of the season. Made three tackles and one interception as he broke up play well.

Harry Winks - 6.73 - Kept things ticking over well for Spurs as he found a teammate with 63 of his 70 attempted passes.

Moussa Sissoko - 7.46 - Provided the assist for Erik Lamela’s goal in what was a bright opening 45 minutes for the Frenchman. While not a standout display, it was solid performance from the midfielder, who returned a 94.2% pass success rate.

Erik Lamela - 8.00 (Man of the Match) - Tottenham’s bright spark in the first half and fully deserved his goal as he headed past Lukasz Fabianski. Was always finding space in the final third and difficult to shake off the ball, completing four dribbles, as he impressed on his first league start of the season

Lucas Moura - 7.21 - Defended well from the front and worked hard off the ball. When on in possession, he was tough to stop, with a surging run at the start of the second half opening up West Ham a highlight, though the move didn’t end in a Tottenham goal.

Harry Kane - 6.24 - Marshalled well by Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena when he looked to work space in attack. After his England heroics in Spain, this was very much a sub-par display from the Tottenham striker, whose two shots were off target and was dispossessed three times.

Subs

Mousa Dembele - 5.97 - A couple of hairy moments on his first appearance following his return from injury.

Fernando Llorente - 6.15 - Missed an easy chance following his late introduction.

Christian Eriksen - 6.02 - Didn’t have enough time to impact the match.
