Manchester United January capture rewarded for fine form with PFA gong

Bruno Fernandes has enjoyed a fine start to life with Manchester United. An assist in United's 2-0 Manchester Derby win over Manchester City on Sunday means the midfielder has had a direct hand in five goals in five league outings, and it was his form in February that attracted plenty of adulation. Indeed, Fernandes earned the WhoScored player of the month gong and he has followed that up with the PFA Premier League Fans' Player of the Month award for February.

Fernandes enjoyed fine showings in positive results against Wolves, Chelsea and Watford, earning the WhoScored man of the match accolade in the home 3-0 victory over the Hornets, as the former Sporting CP man enjoyed an excellent start to life at Old Trafford.

As the official ratings providers for the PFA Fans' Player of the Month award, the 25-year-old was one of 18 players to make the longlist and was one of WhoScored.com's six players selected on the six-man shortlist for the award. And his inclusion was evidently justified as Fernandes secured a massive 58% of the vote from the public.

He pipped compatriot Rui Patricio (19%), teammate Harry Maguire (8%), Burnley's Dwight McNeil (6%), Everton frontman Richarlison and Arsenal goal machine Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (both 4%) to the fans' award as supporters recognised his superb debut month in England.

With so much furore surrounding his arrival, and a 'will-he, won't-he' sign narrative, expectations were high upon his long-awaited switch to Manchester United, but he has more than lived up to standards having landed on his feet at Old Trafford. United look a far more dangerous side with Fernandes in the XI and it's no surprise that his exploits haven't gone unnoticed.

Fernandes becomes the second United player to win the award this season with Marcus Rashford named the December PFA Premier League Fans' Player of the Month and supporters will be hoping it's the first of many for the Portugal international.
