Neves and Branthwaite to Man Utd? Sunday's top transfer rumours

Manchester United are looking to wrap up deals for Joao Neves and Jarrad Branthwaite this sooner rather than later, while Newcastle are keen on landing another goalkeeper. Here we run through today's top transfer rumours featuring United, Newcastle, Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal and Bayern Munich

Man Utd looking to confirm Branthwaite signing this month

Manchester United are looking to secure the services of Jarrad Branthwaite before the end of the month, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Branthwaite was cut from England's Euro 2024 squad in favour of Lewis Dunk and that has accelerated United's push to bolster at the back.

Despite Everton's brief flirt with relegation, Branthwaite was superb for a Toffees side that boasted the fourth best defensive record in the Premier League.

Only Atalanta's Giorgio Scalvini (59) made more interceptions than Branthwaite (50) of players aged 21 and under in Europe's top five leagues last season.

Newcastle need to up offer for goalkeeper target

Newcastle have offered Burnley £16m for goalkeeper James Trafford, but the Clarets are holding out for £20m, reports the Mail.

Trafford ranked fifth for saves per 90 (3.8) in the Premier League this season, though he lost his spot to Arijanet Muric for the final 10 games of the season.

The Magpies are looking to strengthen between the sticks this summer and are hoping to capitalise upon Burnley's relegation to sign Trafford yet need to up their initial offer.

Man Utd submit second bid for top midfield target

Manchester United are prepared to submit a second bid for number one midfield target Joao Neves after their opening £51m offer was rejected by Benfica, according to Portuguse publication A Bola.

Neves enjoyed a wonderful breakout campaign in Liga Portugal, establishing himself as a first team regular for Benfica and securing a place in Roberto Martinez's Portugal squad for Euro 2024.

United are aiming to strengthen in the middle of the park, with Neves top of their wishlist as they gear up for the potential summer departure of Casemiro.

Man City keen to keep wantaway striker

Manchester City will rebuff any loan offers for striker Julian Alvarez and want to keep the Argentina international, reports Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old was linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium last week, with a lack of playing time at the end of the campaign the reason behind his desire to depart.

City, though, are keen to retain Alvarez's services beyond the summer despite interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

Arsenal identify summer midfield target

Arsenal are interested in signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa this summer, reports Rudy Galetti.

The Gunners are in the market for another central midfielder and have previously been linked with a move for the Brazil international.

However, they'd face competition for Luiz from Italian side Juventus, who according to Calciomercato, are prepared to offer Weston McKennie in exchange for the 26-year-old.

Bayern close in on top midfield target

Bayern Munich are closing in on the signing of Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, reports Florian Plettenberg.

Bayern were heavily linked with a move for Palhinha last summer but the deal fell through at the 11th hour.

New Bayern boss Vincent Kompany has sanctioned the move for the Portugal international, who hopes to complete the transfer before Euro 2024 gets underway this week.

Tottenham's club-record signing set to leave for free

Tottenham's club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele is set to be released on a free transfer, according to French publication Foot Mercato.

Ndombele joined from Lyon back in 2019 and was expected to be a mainstay in the Spurs midfield.

However, Ndombele struggled to match expectations and has been sent on loan spells to Lyon, Napoli and Galatasaray, with Spurs and the French midfielder now prepared to part ways.

Arsenal target Solanke up for grabs

Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke could be available for £65m this summer, which has alerted a number of interested sides, including Arsenal, reports the Sunday Express.

Solanke exceeded expectations last season as he scored 19 times in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign and his performances on the south coast have not gone unnoticed.

Arsenal, who are in the market for a new striker, have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old, as have north London rivals Tottenham.
